It is with sadness that we report the death earlier this week of Prof.
Hugh
Anderson, Emeritus Professor of New Testament Language, Literature and
Theology at the University of Edinburgh.
Hugh Anderson's main appointments were at the University of Glasgow, at
Duke
University, and at the University of Edinburgh. A distinguished New
Testament Scholar, he began as a teacher of Hebrew, before completing
his
doctorate in New Testament. His publications include books on the
Psalms, on
Historians of Israel, on Jesus, on Mark, on 3 and 4 Maccabees, and on
Christology. He received many invitations as Visiting Professor, and to
speak
and to teach in other contexts also. A man of quiet friendliness and
calm
good humour he often had wise words to offer those around him. He will
be
much missed.
The funeral will be at 11 am at Greenbank Church, Edinburgh on Tue 21st
January. It is not yet known if there will be another event later in
the
year in a University context but it is quite possible that this will be
so.
