It appears that Mark is using the two narratives I outlined in Mark
8.29-10.52 for the purpose of affirming two myths among the ancient
communities.
1. The Christ people of the Christ cult
2. The Jesus people of the Jesus movement
The Christ cult emphasized a mythology of a dying, rising martyr-savior
The Jesus people emphasized a mythology of telling their/Jesus' story by
retelling their story according to the Israelite epic (Moses, Elijah).
It appears that Mark is using the two narratives I outlined in Mark
8.29-10.52 for this purpose of affirming the two myths because the one
narrative emphasizes the martyr mythology in the three cycles of the passion,
culminating in cross and servanthood, and the other narrative addresses the
mythology of Jesus in terms of the Israelite epic - Elijah and Moses.
