Some quotes from a book I¹m reading that address dome issues being discussed
regarding "history".
[Speaking of the 2nd gospel]

"Šthe text creates a literary image of reality which is a self-referential
construction. "

"At the same time the reality of the narrative world implies an intimate
connection to some historical reality."

"The most important link between the narrative world constructed in the
Gospel of Mark and the world of history and hermeneutics is the concept of
kerygma (proclamation)."

"Thus, the most authentic hermeneutical moves are those which recognize the
intrinsic kerygmatic possessiveness of this narrative. These claims may be
accepted or rejected, but they must be recognized as inherent to the nature
of the text."

"For the Gospel of mark this kerygmatic nature is grounded in an objective,
faith-oriented, praxis-determined view of realityŠ that is more reactionary
than reflective."

"The world view of the Gospel of Mark suggests a faith-oriented,
praxis-determined reading, both in its historical and in its hermeneutical
images."
