In _The Homeric Epics and the Gospel of Mark_, Dennis MacDonald states that
Mark's walking on water story has similarities to Homer's story of Hermes'
visit to Priam which have apparently gone unnoticed.
However, I think that the "similarities" MacDonald sees are extremely faint,
vague, or nonexistent, many of the assumptions he makes are false, and
there's virtually no way Mark intended for readers to think of the Homer epic
when he wrote this gospel story.
I describe his argument--fairly, I hope, and present my rebuttal, at

I would welcome any comments.
