I agree with your roadmap, and I would be willing to do some
investigation and compatibility testing. My only problem: I'm not
convinced it's necessary.

I assert any db-lib application can "SET ANSI_DEFAULTS ON" and go its
merry way. If someone can show me a situation where

1. that's not true, or
2. it wouldn't be necessary with Sybase

then I would agree to help carry out your plan.

At the very least, I'd like to be able to put in the release notes "We
changed db-lib to be partly ODBC-compliant because X works now and
didn't before."

Remember Hippocrates. I'm very concerned about painting ourselves in a
corner: we could easily change a default behavior, not notice it in
testing, and break existing applications.
