One thing I would add is that I get a lot of compiler warnings with the
forte C compiler on Solaris

harringp@infra1$ cc -V
cc: Forte Developer 7 C 5.4 2002/03/09

on this platform:
SunOS 5.8 Generic_108528-15 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R
Solaris

also building and configuring the iODDBC and unixODBC has confused me
... DSN-less connections via DBD::ODBC via iODBC via freetds have
confused me to the extent that I do not know where exactly the confusion
is! Hope to know shortly exactly how confused I am and why.

Our systems group have pointed out a number of problems moving between
0.60 and 0.61.2 which do not seem to occur with 0.62.dev .. again, once
I have specific tests narrowed down, I will send them to the list.

I am looking forward to seeing the ct_dynamic stuff from Bill as it
would be really nice if placeholders and prepared statements worked with
DBD::Sybase

I am very happy to be a freeTDS user.
thanks a lot!

We're planning one. Really. This year, for sure. There was a thread
here a month ago called "status" that reviews our state of affairs.

If you could get Bill Thompson to actually submit that wonderful ct-lib
patch of his, that would be a step in the right direction.

Documentation. Our ODBC documentation needs updating. It really needs
an
editor-in-chief, someone whose first language is English and whose
second
language is ODBC. But at the very least it should explain about the
autodetection features. It's still not easy enough to figure out what
to
do to set up a new servername in odbc.ini and freetds.conf. We get a
batch of questions about that after every release. Which is good and
bad,
if you see what I mean.

We need a good test harness for UTF-8 testing.

We need compilations (and testing) under big-endian and especially
64-bit
systems. Almost everyone it seems is using i386 these days, and in a
project like this, alignment assumptions have a way of creeping in.

I'm not sure what would persuade me to fix the autoconf issues, but
that's
clearly on my todo, too.
