In contrast to the TDS library, the client libraries have fixed,
vendor-defined APIs. You're far better off adopting one of them. They will
make your job easier and -- if we do our job right -- require no changes as
FreeTDS progresses. (We add functionality all the time, we force changes to
client applications only if we previously misinterpreted the spec. I don't
remember the last time that happened.)

With the possible exception of dynamic SQL, all functionality in libtds is
available via db-lib, with the others not far behind.
