You are close. AFAIK, You need TDS 5.0. If 4.2 works too, please tell us.
Nothing else will.

See the end-of-February thread in the archives, "ASA Error -83: Specified
database not found".

Basically, the [servername] in your freetds.conf has to match your database
name.
