You shouldn't have to use that with sqsh. freetds.conf and the interfaces
file are not the same thing. Do you have an interfaces file in
/etc/freetds? If so you should delete it, and use only freetds.conf.

I've been using php4-sybase on debian for a long time, and it works great.
