Oh. That means I misread your log.
gcc -shared -o .libs/libsybdb.so.o .libs/dblib.o .libs/dbutil.o
.libs/rpc.o .libs/bcp.o .libs/xact.o ../tds/.libs/libtds_
I thought "libsybdb.so.o" was "libsybdb.so.0". "gcc -shared" should build a
shared library, and the suffix shouldn't be ".o" as in "object". I was
expecting ".libs/libsybdb.so.2.0".
Questions to ponder:
1. Why .o and not .0?
2. Is file(1) lying about the ".o" filetype?
3. Why would "gcc -shared" -o foo.o [...] render anything but a shared
library?
4. Is the output not installed because make/ginstall doesn't look for *.o
files?
5. What does "man ld" for the AIX linker indicate "-shared" does?
I can imagine problems with A) gcc's interface to the AIX linker and B)
libtool's interface with the pair of them.
I don't know the answers, clearly. Perhaps the questions will be of some
use.
