These should be samples:
/home/cinar/freetds-0.60/samples/odbc.ini
/home/cinar/unixODBC-2.2.3/Drivers/MySQL/odbc.ini
/usr/local/src/odbcsdk/doc/odbc.ini
/usr/src/unixODBC-2.2.0/Drivers/MySQL/odbc.ini

/root/.odbc.ini is your user odbc dsn configuration. I remember that using
root account for testing purpose is always bad...

/etc/odbc.ini and /usr/local/etc/odbc.ini ... one should be the correc
global, how do you have installed unixODBC ?
