Except that it would be better to return an error than to segfault if
dbresults() is called at the wrong time. Admittedly, that's a nicety, not a
necessity.

I don't think the vendor implementations misbehave unless you lie about
bindings or such things. Calling dblib stuff out of order results in
errors, not abends.

Don't know if we should keep state in db-lib, or what.
