ok, much better: when removing timeout it does not core anymore BUT it
still can't connect ( it ends at SQLConnect() call fril isql ). Note that
a connection attempt is really done on the right SQL server as I can see
1st connection steps when tcpdump'ing :

Re-setting a timeout makes it dump, no doubt there's a clue here :)
Re-trying with 0.53 works perfectly.
Please tell me any test you want me to perform.

PS: an information that may help, a friend of mine had some troubles when
playing w/ non-blocking operations on FreeBSD, this is apparently fixed on
FreeBSD-current..
