Bill,
I'd say rely on "long long". There must be an autoconf macro you can use to
test for its support. If "long long" isn't supported on some ancient
compiler, just fail the conversion. We don't have to make FreeTDS work on a
Commodore 64, at least as far as I'm concerned.
