Also, if you turn on TDSDUMP the dump shows where the connection is
being made to. Use sqsh as you did before, but with TDSDUMP set to
sqsh.log, then see what the log shows.
I've changed the source again so that it reports the IP address and port
number it was trying to connect to, please refetch src/tds/login.c and
retry the sqsh with that, sending me the output.
