Hi,

I may recall the subject for other people: I'd like to install DBD::Sybase on
a linux machine in order to query a MS SQL NT machine. The latest advices I
got are the following:

On Thu, 14 Oct 1999, Mark Schaal wrote:

#You should get the most recent version of freetds (0.47) which will
#work with DBD::Sybase.

On Thu, 14 Oct 1999, Michael Peppler wrote:

#The default port for MS-SQL is 1433 if I'm not mistaken. Everything
#else will be exactly as a Sybase server (from DBD::Sybase's POV).
#You need to get freetds 0.47.

Thanks a lot. I did it and all seems to work, except the 'make test' command
in the DBD-Sybase-0.21 directory, and the use of the driver itself :
==============================================================================
> make test
make -f Makefile.aperl perl
make[1]: Entering directory `/users/vince/tmp/FREETDS/DBD-Sybase-0.21'
make[1]: `perl' is up to date.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/users/vince/tmp/FREETDS/DBD-Sybase-0.21'
PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 ./perl -Iblib/arch -Iblib/lib
-I/usr/lib/perl5/5.00502/i586-linux -I/usr/lib/perl5/5.00502 -e 'use
Test::Harness qw(&runtests $verbose); $verbose=0; runtests @ARGV;' t/*.t
t/autocommit........dubious
Test returned status 0 (wstat 11, 0xb)
t/base..............ok
t/fail..............dubious
Test returned status 0 (wstat 11, 0xb)
Undefined subroutine &Test::Harness::WCOREDUMP called at
/usr/lib/perl5/5.00502/Test/Harness.pm line 288.
make: *** [test_static] Error 255
==============================================================================

Apart from this fact (I think it's only a problem related to my perl version
because of the message 'Undefined subroutine &Test::Harness::WCOREDUMP')
above, I tried to run the following script

==============================================================================
#!/usr/local/bin/perl
use DBI;
BEGIN {
$ENV{SYBASE} = '/usr/local/freetds';
}
print "1\n";
my $dbh = DBI->connect("dbi:Sybase:driver=global:", "sa", "sa.passwd");
print "2\n";

1;
==============================================================================

having of course defined global in the /usr/local/freetds/interfaces file:

==============================================================================
global
query tcp ether 192.168.1.80 1433
master tcp ether 192.168.1.80 1433
==============================================================================

The script above leads to the following error:

==============================================================================
1

Command terminated
==============================================================================

Note that the MS SQL server 192.168.1.80 daily runs without trouble.

Thanks a lot in advance for your reply.

Vince
