Help us fund our permaculture class...
New Roots Charter School in Ithaca, NY is offering a 4 day permaculture
intensive to its students. I will be teaching a small crowd of students at
Cayuta Sun Farm (site of the Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute's summer
design course.) New Roots' curriculum and mission is to teach students to
advocate for environmental sustainability and social justice. This crew of
mostly juniors and seniors have been learning knowledge and skills that make
them ideal candidates to grasp the fundamentals of permaculture.
However, funds have been too tight for the transportation costs for this
learning event. So I have turned to the broader permaculture community for
help through a short Indiegogo campaign:

The result: We have met 93% of our goal in one week… Thank you!
Thanks to the 13 funders for helping us come so close to our final goal. New
Roots Charter School now has nearly all funds needed for the class, while
donations and referrals still needed to finish the campaign. Thank you also
to all who broadcasted our appeal.
New Roots Charter School is proud of the electives and “expeditionary”
learning that our students enjoy. As a small and often under-funded charter
school, most of our resources must be devoted to the meeting core
requirements of high school classes. Fortunately, our mission is often
supported by the community. The permaculture community is now part of the
many networks of allies that support our school.
If you have not already done so, we still have to reach our goal and you can
still donate.
Also, it is still crucial to spread the word to hundreds more to make 100%.

Note: Any funds not spent (or beyond our $500 goal) will be saved for
permaculture education through the New Roots Farm-to-School program.
Thanks again,
Michael Burns
