Growing Salad Greens in Winter Thursday October 10, 6:30-8:30 pm Cornell Cooperative Extension – 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca Call 272-2292 to pre-register The onset of cold weather does not necessarily mean an end to growing vegetables in upstate NY. Greens such as lettuce, mizuna, bok choi, arugula, kale, spinach and mustard
are very cold-hardy and don't mind the short winter days. CCE educator Chrys Gardener will show slides of two types of winter salad green production using low outdoor tunnels and solar greenhouses. There will also be discussion on growing salad greens indoors
using fluorescent lights, and a demonstration on constructing a low-cost PVC light stand for growing winter salads and starting spring seedlings.
Cost: $5-$10 sliding scale fee. Please call CCE at 272-2292 to pre-register, or email Chrys Gardener at cab69 AT cornell.edu.
