at Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca NY

Each spring, CCE-Tompkins offers a FREE training series for individuals who wish to volunteer with the Citizen Pruner Program and members of the general public. Three workshops will be offered this year:

  • Growing Trees in Difficult Sites - Monday, 4/1, 7:00-8:30pm with Dr. Nina Bassuk, Cornell Urban Horticulture Institute
  • Training Young Trees, Pruning Older Trees, and Tools of the Trade - Monday, 4/8, 7:00-8:30pm, with City Forestry Technician, Jeanne Grace, and Arborist Keith Vanderhye
  • Pruning Shrubs - Monday, 4/16, 7:00-8:30pm, with Monika Roth, Agriculture Extension Educator at CCE-Tompkins

Join the Citizen Pruner Program!
Citizen Pruner volunteers get lots of hands-on pruning practice during weekly work sessions held from May to October. Volunteer once a week or when available. Generally there is one one morning (8:30-10:00am) work session and one early evening (5:30-7:00pm) work session per week. Volunteers work throughout the City of Ithaca pruning street trees and in parks. For a volunteer job description and to register for the classes, call (607) 272-2292 or email Monika Roth at mr55 AT cornell.edu.
