downtown Ithaca visiting neighborhood and school gardens and raise pledges
to support local food justice projects
- Powerful *guest speaker, **Malik Kenyatta

founder and the Interim Executive Director of the Detroit Black Community Food
Security Network
- Live music from acclaimed musicians* Thousands of One*****
- G4H's **Iron Chef Junior Competition: 2:45 PM *come celebrate (and
taste!) youth demonstrating their culinary talents
- An organic ribs and chicken BBQ & vegetarian fare featuring food grown by
local farms, prepared by neighborhood chefs and sold at a suggested
donation so everyone can enjoy and be nourished by the bounty of our
region!
- *Youth performances* by Community Unity Music Education Program (CUMEP
including ABC Groove, Beautiful Colors, All of Us and more!
- Informational displays, interactive workshops and calls for action by
organizations and groups working towards social justice and sustainability.

Educational, activist and service organizations or groups are invited to table
or do an interactive activity at the Food Justice Summit celebration outside
Neighborhood Pride (former P&C) from 12pm-6pm (following the walk-a-thon). To
register please complete this 1 minute Registration Form

brief description of your plans for participating (passive display/interactive

- organize a rally or another way for people to act on an important issue
related to social justice, health or sustainability

Vendors are welcome to sell their eco-friendly, socially conscious wares.

Food Justice Summit Event Schedule

- 10am - Walk begins at The Space (700 West Buffalo Street, at the corner
of Court Street and 13). Please arrive 15 minutes early to check-in, get a
t-shirt and a route map. Early registration and check-in's available
starting at 9am for walkers who plan to walk at a leisurely pace and want
to start early.
- 12pm - Block Party begins (streets are closed in the Northside
neighborhood for live music, local organic BBQ, speakers, workshops,
vendors, youth activities and more)
- 1pm - Performance by the talented youth of the Community Unity Music
Education Program http://communityunity.cfsites.org/ (CUMEP). Enjoy ABC
Groove, Beautiful Colors, All of Us and more! Come celebrate our emerging
community leaders and enjoy singing and dancing that will warm your heart!
- 1:45 - Asya
- 2pm - Keynote speaker: Malik Yakini

of the documentary Urban Roots, a film that follows the work of Malik
Yakini and the urban farming phenomenon in Detroit and is a timely, moving
and inspiring film that speaks to a nation grappling with collapsed
industrial towns and the need to forge a sustainable and prosperous future.
The screening is co-sponsored by New World Agriculture Group at Cornell and
the Albert R. Mann Library. For more information visit:

- *Monday, Oct. 24th, 6-7:30pm at Anabel Taylor Hall Cafe on the Cornell

to participate in “Undoing Racism in the Food System: A Conversation with
Malik Yakini.” Light refreshments will be served. The gathering is
cosponsored by the Groundswell Center for Local Food & Farming, New World
Agriculture and Ecology Group at Cornell, Albert R. Mann Library, Cornell
Department of Development Sociology, Dorothy Cotton Institute, Gardens 4
Humanity, Whole Community Project, Cornell Garden-Based Learning Program,
and Moosewood Restaurant. More information is available at
