Francis W writes:
<< Today Sunday Jim Miller wrote about two Collections alluded in the
Gospels: "Moses and the Prophets" and "Psalms".
I have a doubt: Is it not a direct reference to the Hebrew Bible known
also as TaNaKh, i.e.: >>

That is the question, whether these Scripture collections are exactly
what we know today as the Jewish canon. First, the group "Psalms" is
mentioned only once with "Moses and the Prophets" (Luke 24:44). Elsewhere in
the gospels Moses and the Prophets, or the law and the prophets appear
without the "Psalms". Why? Moses or the law almost certainly was the five
books we know, but did the Prophets include Daniel for some of the gospel
writers? What about Ruth, Chronicles or Ezra-Nehemiah, are they in the
Prophets? Was the Prophets an open canon? We often assume that the "Psalms"
was still open at this time, but can we be sure?
And, unlike the synoptic gospels, Paul never gave us anything specific on
the canon. He clearly held to some idea of Scripture, but we can't be sure
what its limits were.
