Dear Hard pressed student,

One of the best arguments against the view that Phil 2:5-11 is pre-pauline
tradition is found in Riesenfeld, Harald. 1983. Unpoetische Hymnen im Neuen
Testament? Zu Phil 2,1-11. In Glaube und Gerechtigkeit: In Memoriam Rafael
Gyllenberg, edited by J. Kiilunen, V. Riekkinen and H. Räisänen. Helsinki.
Pp 155-168.

Then you should also look at the classic work on the passage by Ralph Martin
Carmen Christi : Philippians II, 5-11 in recent interpretation in
the setting of early Christian worship Cambridge : Cambridge Univ. Press
1967

I also have a discussion of the criteria for determining whether a passage
is traditional or not in my book Traditions as Rhetorical Proof.

Hope this helps,

Anders Eriksson
