As far as the amount is concerned: remember that Paul in 2 Cor. had to prod
the
Corinthians to get on with collecting funds to complete what they began
(half-heartedly?) a year ago.
Further, in Rom. 15:31b he worries whether his service will be acceptable
to the
Jerusalem church. It sounds to me as if the amount that he is sending may
not match
their expectations.
I do not think that one can calculate the amount from the man-hours
involved,
because the project was not a business transaction. However, I have always
wondered
about the amount of time spent traveling from church to church by these early
Christians. Part of it, for example from Ephesus to Corinth and back, is
surely
travel on business with the visit to other Christian communities as a fringe
benefit.
Does anyone know of a commercial reason for Corinthians to visit Jerusalem?
Best wishes, -- John
