The value of the collection must have been large enough to justify the
sending of the delegates. Let us suppose that there were seven
representatives of the churches who traveled to Jerusalem and back. They
may have spent four months on the round trip and therefore lost a total of
720 days wages between them. So the collection would have involved
'overheads' of about 720 denarii. The delegates certainly had important
functions so I can believe that the overheads amounted to 20% of the value
of the collection. This would mean the collection was worth 3600 denarii.
This is somewhat more than Peter Head's estimate.
