News of the Weststar Paul Seminar is interesting. Years ago Bob Funk
inspired a Paul Seminar on Paul as letter writer (about 1971-75). I
found it very fruitful. Nils Dahl chaired the seminar. John White was
an active participant. So also Jim Hester, among others. Not enough
notice has been taken of its work.
Anyhow, it sounds as though Veitch represents a revival of the Dutch
Radical School of the late 19th century. Bits of that point of view got
into the Encyclopedia Biblica (4 vols; 1899-1903), part of the reason
that the publication never sold very well. The theory is (was) that
Paul, like Jesus was a legendary figure of whom we know a little through
Acts (cf. Jesus and the Synoptics). The letters are all later and by
another author or authors. An interesting inversion of the usual
opinion!
A pleasant year 2000 to all. -- John Hurd
