Chris:
And thanks Markus for your excellent, and brief (!) reply.
Can I ask about another possible influence on Paul - the Mithras cult.

My thoughts are as follows.

There are parallels in the drinking the blood of the sacrificed bull, which
is sometimes symbolically replaced by wine. On the other hand one assumes
Pauls Jewish sensibilities would be affronted by such a taboo.

Also what of the ritual in Paul's home town of Tarsus in honour of Herakles
who also slays a bull. The Herakles myth (which I can summarise if readers
wish) closely follows the Passion an many details.
