Dear CHPAC,

Below is a link to an article that mentions Council’s discussion of the CHPAC at last night’s budget meeting.  Below the link is the relevant passage.

Town Council seeks staff help in scaling back budget BY BETH VELLIQUETTE : The Herald-Sun CHAPEL

“The council also discussed public art, which is managed by the independent Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission. Its executive director, Kate Flory, is leaving soon, and Councilman Mark Kleinschmidt suggested the council might want to reconsider whether the commission, which receives funds from the town to manage the town's public arts program, continue to be a separate entity.

"Should we really continue to contract with a private organization to carry out our public arts program?" Kleinschmidt asked.

Kleinschmidt wondered whether the public arts program should be brought back under town supervision.

Because the council is reconsidering the Arts Commission's status and may decide to run the public arts program itself, it would probably be best that the commission not seek a replacement for Flory, Foy said.

Flory said the commission had planned to advertise for a new director next week.”
