Sculpture Visions

July 2006 through May 2007

Call to Artists

You are invited to apply for the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission’s (CHPAC) Sculpture Visions exhibition.  Now through April 12, 2006 the CHPAC is accepting submissions from artists who wish to apply for this temporary outdoor sculpture exhibition that will be on view from July 2006 through May 2007.

The artworks will be sited in public locations throughout Chapel Hill.  Works submitted must be large-scale, well fabricated, and constructed of durable materials suitable for outdoor display.  Additionally, the works must be constructed so that they can be securely anchored to the ground.  The Sculpture Visions committee determines the final siting of each artwork.

Participating artists will receive a stipend of $750 per selected artwork on view from July 2006 through May 2007.  All stipends are payable in two installments; half when the work is installed and half after the work has been removed from the site.

The selection committee will consider proposals for site-specific projects from experienced artists.  Each proposal must include slides or digital images of a model or drawings of the concept.

Entry Procedures

Each artist may submit up to three sculptures for consideration.  Each work may be represented by up to three slides or digital images, showing different views of the piece.

To apply, please submit the following:

▪    Slides or digital images (2-3 per piece).  Digital images must be sent on a CD and be a minimum 600x800 jpg or tif.  All slides/digital images should be clearly labeled with name of artist and title of artwork

▪    Image identification list indicating name, title, medium, dimensions; the price (if the piece is for sale)

▪    Statement on the proposed method of installation for each work.  Installation information should include any special requirements and should identify the equipment that will be used to accomplish the installation

▪    Current resume (no longer than two pages)

▪    $10 entry fee payable to the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission

▪    Self addressed stamped envelope appropriately sized and sufficiently stamped for the return of application materials. (CHPAC will make every effort to return slides in the condition they are received, but does not assume responsibility for loss or damage)

Please submit all materials by Wednesday, April 12, 2006 to:

Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission

405 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.

Chapel Hill, NC  27514

Costs associated with transportation and installation are the responsibility of the artist.  Completed installation must pass Town inspection, meeting all safety requirements.

The Town of Chapel Hill will insure each work for the duration of the exhibition at a value determined by an independent appraiser (up to a maximum value of $25,000).

A temporary identification plaque will be provided for each work.  The CHPAC will also produce Sculpture Visions publicity materials and will promote the exhibition with local media.

Sale of works will be encouraged.  A 15% commission on works sold is requested.
