CARY N.C. – Charles Moleski will present his lecture, “The Politics of Place: The Evolution of Public Art in Philadelphia,” on March 16th at 7 p.m. at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center.  Mr. Moleski will discuss Philadelphia’s rich tradition of public art through the lens of spatial and identity politics.  Illustrated with slides, the talk will also show how trends in contemporary public art have influenced the way that the Fairmount Park Art Association commissions new works of public art.  The event is organized and sponsored by Cary Visual Art, Inc. (CVA) and is presented to the public free of charge.  The Town of Cary is co-sponsoring the program.

The Fairmount Park Art Association is the oldest non-profit organization dedicated to public art.  In his role as Program Manager for the New Land Marks Program, Mr. Moleski is continuing this long tradition by working directly with artists and communities to create new works of public art.  “We are very excited to present this lecture by Mr. Moleski to the public.  The topic is quite timely because CVA will be launching our new Public Art In Residence Program this spring.  Our program is modeled in part on the New Land Marks, which successfully involved community members in the public art process.”

Before coming to the Art Association, Mr. Moleski administered education and community outreach programs at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art in Wilmington, Delaware and the Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  A graduate of Hamilton College with a dual degree in Studio Arts and English Literature, Moleski is a practicing artist and has contributed exhibition reviews to Art Papers.
