It's delightful to see ch-scene back in action, after such a long hiatus.

I, too, after a long hiatus, am back in some sort of action...with an album out today on Florida-based label Barchan Dune Recordings. This is Private Cathedral—a duo I started in London as part of my master's thesis on creative collaboration. If you've liked previous artpop I've done, like Felix Obelix, but you always hated the sound of my singing voice, well, aren't you in for a treat!

Listen on your favorite streaming platform.

Assuming border control does not stop my collaborator Genevieve from entering the United States next week, we will play a rare live show at The Pinhook on 5/16. Early show: doors at 7:30pm; Lalitree Darnielle with a full band at 8pm; Private Cathedral at 9pm. We'll be done by 10pm; all ages. Since this band is typically separated by 4000+ miles, we are rarely in the same country for gigs. You won't be "catching us next time" anytime soon. And Lalitree put out a solid debut album last year, and I convinced her to put together a live band for this gig.

If you're still reading this and thinking, I know the name "Wendy Spitzer" but I can't remember what she looks like or what she plays, then your questions may perhaps be answered by viewing this live video.

Best wishes to all,
Wendy "I can't remember what she looks like or what she plays" Spitzer

Remember, on Bandcamp Friday (which is *not* every Friday — it’s like once a
quarter nowadays), Bandcamp waives its cut, so artists/labels get 100% of what
you pay.

A few recommendations:

The new Eli Winter is out today, and it cooks:
https://eliwinter.bandcamp.com/album/a-trick-of-the-light

Closer to home, last year’s Old Ceremony album is well worth your time:
https://theoldceremony.bandcamp.com/album/earthbound

Django is one of those ppl who works at such a consistently high level that it
can start to get overlooked — what, another great Old Ceremony album?

Been listening a lot to the debut full-length from Durham’s Trash Signal,
which is snotty & punky w/synth lines threaded through it. Drummer Dave
Yarwood has played in a bunch of other locals, including No Love, so this
tracks. https://trashsignal.bandcamp.com/album/trash-signal

My other heavy rotation album this spring has been The Way Out of Easy, by the
Jeff Parker ETA IVtet, who had a long-running Monday residency at a venue in
LA called ETA. https://intlanthem.bandcamp.com/album/the-way-out-of-easy

You rockers on this list might recognize Jeff’s name from his other band,
Tortoise.

xo

Ross
