The New Jim Crow reading group meets THIS THURSDAY
Thursday April 4 7:00 pm
Reading group for The New Jim Crow
Michelle Alexander’s book shows that by targeting black men through the
War on Drugs and decimating communities of color, the U.S. criminal
justice system functions as a system of racial control, even as it
formally adheres to the principle of colorblindness.
This is an excellent opportunity to get to know other prison abolitionists
in the area.
We will use this book as a tool to strategize in the fight against the
prison-industrial complex. Contact ppbirthday AT riseup.net with questions.
Wednesday 4/10 8:00 Transgender discussion- open to friends, family, and
allies
Monthly meeting for people who identify as transgender, gender-queer, or
gender-questioning, co-hosted by NC Harm Reduction Coalition &
Internationalist Books. A safe space for gender-nonconforming folks to
access harm reduction health resources, share and process experiences, and
support one another.
Thursday 4/11 7:00 Contraditionary book release!
In the tradition of The Devil’s Dictionary, Crimethinc's newest book
assembles a wide range of wit and whimsy. This is no mere miscellany, but
a lighthearted work of serious literature, concentrating a wealth of ideas
and history into aphorisms and anecdotes.
Here Crimethinc takes their offensive against the status quo onto the
terrain of language itself. With wit and whimsy, Contradictionary pulls
back the curtain from the war within every word, revealing the conflict
behind the façade of the commonplace.
Sunday 4/14 7:00 Body Heat: Femme Porn National Tour
