Tuesday, April 17
Peelander-Z (http://www.peelander-z.com/p-z_e/home_e.html)
One-Eyed Doll
Motorco Music Hall, Durham

This one's in the Showroom.

Tuesday, April 17

And this one's in the Garage bar.

Tuesday, April 17
Green River Ordinance (http://www.greenriverordinance.com/)
Graham Colton

Tuesday, April 17
Spider Bags (http://www.myspace.com/spiderbags)
Gross Ghost (http://www.myspace.com/grossghost)
Terry Malts (http://facebook.com/terrymalts)
The Pinhook, Durham

Good gracious what an amazing rockshow. Spider Bags have been on a
white-hot streak lately, and if you haven't heard the new Gross Ghost
album, you must just not be listening to WXDU at all. Terry Malts are
from SF, and the last time they played Durham it was at La Salamandra
to a highly appreciative (and highly drunk) crowd.

Tuesday, April 17
Noncanon (http://www.myspace.com/noncanon)
Bubbly Mommy Gun
Sean Nicholas Savage
Kings, Raleigh

Wednesday, April 18
The Midnight Gladness Band
The Zoltars (http://thezoltars.com/)
La Salamandra, Durham

This is the first-ever Layabout/Bull City Records/La Salamandra
Rock-n-roll Buffet. It's $9 and you get all-you-can-eat Mexican food,
plus two bands.

Wednesday, April 18
!!!
Shabazz Palaces
Motorco Music Hall, Durham

Wednesday, April 18
The Curtains
Judas Horse (http://www.facebook.com/JudasHorse)
Adam Brinson
The Pinhook, Durham

Apparently I should've taken two weeks off work, because this string
of weeknight shows at the Pinhook is gonna be impossible to pass up.
The Judas Horse is an Asheville-based band which includes Meghan
Mulhearn of US Christmas on violin.

Wednesday, April 18
Sean Hoots & Hellmouth (http://www.myspace.com/seanhoots)
Cheyenne Marie Mize (http://cheyennemariemize.com/)
Donora (http://www.donoramusic.com/)
The Casbah, Durham

Cheyenne Mize played Hopscotch last year; a couple of years before
that she toured with Bonnie Prince Billy on the Beware tour and was my
favorite thing about their ArtsCenter show.

Wednesday, April 18
919Noise Showcase (http://www.myspace.com/919noise)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

This month's lineup: Channel / Jim Roberts and Mark Little (world
percussion music duo) / White Cascade

The Hollywood Kills
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Thursday, April 19
The Hot at Nights
The Casbah, Durham

Thursday, April 19
The Mountain Goats (http://www.themountaingoats.net/)
Mac McCaughan
Greg Cartwright
Tara DeFrancisco
Motorco Music Hall, Durham

This is a fund/awareness-raiser for the fight to defeat the evil
Amendment One, which would write discriminatory language into the NC
constitution, narrowly defining marriage *and* stripping rights from
other domestic partnerships.

A regular ticket is $20. For $100 you can request a song from one of
the performers. Either way, get tickets here.

Thursday, April 19
Drive-By Truckers (http://www.drivebytruckers.com/)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Thursday, April 19
Fan Modine (http://www.grimsey.com/fanmodine.html)
Flesh Wounds
Boykiller (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Boykiller/298192606861242)
Tir Na Nog, Raleigh

An especially eclectic lineup for this week's Local Band Local Beer,
with the breezy MagFields-influenced mope-pop of Fan Modine (fresh off
their recent appearance at the Chickfactor anniversary shows), the
high-energy garage-rock caterwaul of the Flesh Wounds, and the lo-fi
food-and-sex-fueled K-style pop insanity of Boykiller.

Thursday, April 19
Allies Emerge (http://www.alliesemerge.com/)
Dash
Kings, Raleigh

Thursday, April 19

Friday, April 20
Hospitality (http://www.facebook.com/hospitalitylives)
Eleanor Friedberger (http://www.eleanorfriedberger.com/)
The Casbah, Durham

You know what's totally awesome? Seeing bands I love (on Durham's own
Merge Records) actually playing at venues in Durham, rather than way
over in Carrboro. Last weekend it was Lambchop & Crooked Fingers; this
week it's Mac McCaughan & the Mountain Goats on Thursday, and then
this excellent show on Friday.

Friday, April 20
Anders Parker
Django Haskins (http://www.djangohaskins.com/)
Birds & Arrows (http://www.myspace.com/birdsandarrows)
Toubab Krewe
Andy Kleindienst
Haw River Ballroom, Saxapahaw

This is a concert to wrap up an all-day conference about the future of
healthcare -- tickets are separate for the conference & the concert,
and it's open to everyone.

Randy Bickford (http://www.thestrugglers.org)
Lost in the Trees (http://www.lostinthetrees.com)
The Toddlers (http://www.myspace.com/thetoddlersmusic)

This is an album-release party for Lost in the Trees. It's also one of
the first shows by Brice Randall Bickford since his recent relocation
*back* to our beloved Triangle.

Friday, April 20
The Black Cadillacs (http://www.reverbnation.com/theblackcadillacs)
Wylie Hunter & the Cazadores
Jessica Long & The New Kind
Motorco Music Hall, Durham

This is in the Showroom.

Friday, April 20
P-90s

The Cave, Chapel Hill

Friday, April 20
The Record (http://www.thisistherecord.com/)

Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Saturday, April 21
Kaia (http://www.kaiawilson.com/)
Amy Ray (http://www.daemonrecords.com/beta/amy/amy.html)
The Casbah, Durham

Amy Ray was (is?) in the Indigo Girls. Kaia was in the fucking
MINDBLOWING punkrock band Team Dresch as well as the amazing Durham
band The Butchies.

Saturday, April 21
Dexter Romweber and the New Romans (http://www.myspace.com/dexterromweber)
J9 Acoustic
The Kraken, Chapel Hill

Saturday, April 21
Schooner (http://www.schoonermusic.com)
Wesley Wolfe
Jaabs (http://www.veengle.com/s/JAABS.html)
The Pinhook, Durham

This is a release party for the new split 7" featuring Schooner &
Wesley Wolfe, two of my favorite "pop" bands in the Triangle. Rounding
out the bill is Jaabs, the latest from Roman Kuebler, whom you might
remember from Oranges band but I remember from Roads to Space Travel.

Pink Flag (http://www.myspace.com/pinkflagnc)

groups working to defeat the truly evil Amendment One (vote AGAINST
anytime between 4/19 and 5/8!!!).

Saturday, April 21
Flat Tires
21st Century Goliath
DIVEbar, Raleigh

Sunday, April 22
J Kutchma & the 5/5ths (http://jkutchma.com/?page_id=2)
WXDU 88.7 FM, Durham

J Kutchma is of course the incredibly charismatic frontman of Red
Collar -- but in the wake of their 2011 slowdown (itself in the wake
of guitarist Mike Jackson's new fatherhood), J wrote a bunch of "solo"
songs & then assembled a band to play them. Check out the results at
4:00 p.m. on 88.7 FM or wxdu.org.

Sunday, April 22
Natalia Zukerman (http://nataliazukerman.com/)
Adrianne Gonzalez (http://www.agonzalezart.com/)
The Casbah, Durham

This is a (seated, unamplified) house-concert style performance, which
also includes art inspired by the duo's music.

Sunday, April 22
Sister Spit (http://www.sisterspit.com/)
The Pinhook, Durham

Sister Spit isn't a rockband, it's a traveling queer multimedia
extravaganza, featuring writers (including the much-lauded Michelle
Tea) and performers (including Mx. Justin Vivian Bond, aka Kiki from
the crucial NYC cabaret duo Kiki & Herb).

Sunday, April 22
Rayland Baxter (http://www.myspace.com/raylandbaxtermusic)

La Dispute
Sainthood Reps
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Tuesday, April 24
Clang Quartet (http://www.myspace.com/clangquartet)
Secret Boyfriend (http://www.myspace.com/scrtboyfriend)
Yohimbe (http://www.myspace.com/partywithyohimbe)
Scraping Teeth (http://squelchers.net/ST/teeth.htm)
Holly Hunt (http://hollyhunt.bandcamp.com/)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Noise of the quintessential Nightlight variety, presented by avant/out
local label Hot Releases.

Tuesday, April 24
Make (http://www.myspace.com/thebandmake)
Bitter Resolve (http://www.myspace.com/bitterresolve)
Across Tundras (http://acrosstundras.blogspot.com/)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

Two of the most interesting of the current crop of local metal acts,
Bitter Resolve & Make.

Wednesday, April 25
Mr. Quintron (http://www.southern.com/southern/band/QTRON/)
Miss Pussycat (http://www.eccentricneworleans.com/mr__quintron.htm)
The Infamous Sugar (http://www.myspace.com/theinfamoussugar)
Kings, Raleigh

New Orleans' own Mr. Quintron & Miss Pussycat put on the greatest show
on earth, pretty much. I remember waiting about 4 hours through
multiple delays & some lousy opening bands & still leaving FULLY
enthralled after a Quintron show.

Wednesday, April 25
Gmish Klezmer Band (http://philblank.com/gmish.html)
Vermont Joy Parade
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Wednesday, April 25

Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

This is a benefit show for one of the owners of the Will & Pop's food
truck, Kenny Pettis, who has been having some health issues.

Thursday, April 26
Whatever Brains (http://whateverbrains.bandcamp.com/)
Burglar Fucker (http://burglarfucker.bandcamp.com/)
Kings, Raleigh

Show of the week! The last Whatever Brains was utterly awesome, even
better than their consistently amazing live show, so I'm assuming the
same must be true of this new one. And Winston-Salem's Burglar Fucker
put out an utterly insane EP last year that kind of redefined low-fi
sludge-n-roll.

Thursday, April 26
Clarque Blomquist
Baby Copperhead (http://www.babycopperhead.org/)
Ed Askew (http://www.dragcity.com/artists/ed-askew)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Clarque Blomquist has been in a ton of local bands, including Shallow
Be Thy Name, Chuck Chuck Goose, Goat Thrower, and most recently the
Kingsbury Manx.

Thursday, April 26
Hope for Agoldensummer (http://www.hopeforagoldensummer.com/)
Curtis Eller (http://www.myspace.com/curtiseller)
Eliza Rickman (http://www.reverbnation.com/elizarickman)
The Pinhook, Durham

Curtis Eller is the high-kickingest banjo-playing
raconteur/songwriter/storyteller around, and he puts on one hell of a
show.

Thursday, April 26
The Lumineers (http://www.thelumineers.com/)
Kopecky Family Band
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Thursday, April 26
Harvey Dalton Arnold Blues Band (http://www.harveydaltonarnold.com/)
