Heads on Sticks (http://www.thisisstrange.org/)
Lilac Shadows (http://www.reverbnation.com/lilacshadows)
Airstrip (http://airstrip.bandcamp.com)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill
Three bands to watch in 2012: Lilac Shadows is Sam Logan from the
Huguenots, and includes most of his bandmates from T0W3RS as well. Airstrip
is the new project from Matt Park (ex-Veelee) which features folks from
Monsonia, Caltrop & Gross Ghost rounding out the band. And Heads on Sticks
is the downright danceable side project of Birds of Avalon bassist Dave
Mueller.
Thursday, February 16

Harrison of North Elementary.

Antibubbles (http://www.myspace.com/antibubblesss)
Trepak (http://www.myspace.com/trepaktheband)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill
I'm told that this will be the last Antibubbles show before they go on
indefinite hiatus. In the spirit of evolution, change & renewal, Trepak is
a nearly brand-new band from Seamus Kinney (ex-snmnmnm).
Friday, February 17
Jack the Radio (http://www.purevolume.com/jacktheradio)
Debonzo Brothers
Saints Apollo
Local 506, Chapel Hill

David Allan Coe (http://www.OfficialDavidAllanCoe.com/)
Rebel Son
Tonk
Lincoln Theater, Raleigh
I saw David Allan Coe when I was in college, which means a little over 20
years ago. I'm guessing his show this week will be more or less identical,
meaning an endless and kind of maddening medley of about 20 seconds apiece
of a whole bunch of his best-known songs.
Saturday, February 18
Mac McCaughan
Ted Leo
Duke Coffeehouse, Durham
I dunno what Ted Leo is up to on this tour, but I do know that Mac
McCaughan played a "solo" set at the Cave last weekend whose setlist was
summed up by these two tweets:
"Cave set last nt: Untied/ThroughWPpl/
SunnyBrixton/WaterWings/Isn'tThatTheWay/ HomeAtDawn/Digging/RopeLight/
SunsetArcade/NoisyNight (Cont'd)..
...(Cont'd) w/band: ACunningLatch/NakedPilseners/SanAndreas thanks
@RoundhouseKick, Ben & Jen! like being back at Mermaid Lounge..."
Meaning that part of the set was rounded out by the late-90s version of
Portastatic featuring Mac's brother Matt, plus Ben & Jennifer Barwick of
the Ashley Stove.
Saturday, February 18
Killer Filler (http://www.myspace.com/killerfiller)
The Small Ponds
The Cave, Chapel Hill
Slightly nutty matchup, with the instrumental lounge/surf-a-billy of Killer
Filler and the wry, articulate & perhaps slightly bitter love ballads of
the Small Ponds.
Saturday, February 18
Fin Fang Foom (http://www.lovitt.com/artists/finfangfoom.html)
Ben Davis + The Jetts (http://www.myspace.com/bendavisrock)
Pipe (http://www.mrg2000.com/merge/bio.html?id=pipe)
Local 506, Chapel Hill
The amazing thing about Pipe isn't that they're back together, 20 years
(more or less) from their inception. It's that they're so totally amazing.

The Casbah, Durham
The New Romans are Dex Romweber's large band, and they are awesome,
although if you think he looks befuddled when playing with his sister Sara,
you should see him onstage with 8 other players.
