This is the 2nd Annual HearNC Music & Film Festival which I think means a
mix of live bands & music video screenings.

Thursday, December 1
DJ /rupture (http://www.negrophonic.com/rupture/)
Duke Coffeehouse, Durham

DJ /rupture is some kinda big deal, like for real.

Hopscotch 2012 tickets on sale a full 4-5 months before the lineup will be
announced.

https://www.facebook.com/CampfiresandConstellations)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Thursday, December 1

The Cave, Chapel Hill

This was billed as "The Morningstars are: Thee Gay Tornadoes" and I have no
idea what that means.

Hendecatope (http://www.reverbnation.com/hendecatope)

Josh Moore (http://www.myspace.com/joshuamoore)
Systems (http://www.myspace.com/systemsnc)
T0W3RS (http://t0w3rs.bandcamp.com/)

Crazy cross-section of interesting, fairly young-ish local bands.

Friday, December 2
The Loners (http://www.demonbeachrecords.com/loners.html)
Valient Thorr (http://www.valientthorr.com/)

Valient Thorr still put on a top-notch wall-climbing rock-n-roll
extravaganza.

Some Army
Duke Coffeehouse, Durham

Friday, December 2

Friday, December 2
Left Outlet (http://www.myspace.com/leftoutlet)
Naked Gods (http://www.nakedgods.com/)
Borrowed Beams of Light (http://www.borrowedbeams.com/)
Niche
Slim's, Raleigh

Naked Gods' second album, "No Jams," does seem to contain a few fewer jams
than their first album. They still mix pop hooks & psych influences with a
pronounced southern accent.

Saturday, December 3
Steve Howell & The Lonesome Teardrops
The Johnny Folsom 4 (http://www.reverbnation.com/thejohnnyfolsom4)
Southland Ballroom, Raleigh

Steve Howell was the master of the twangy Telecaster in the great Raleigh
country band the Backsliders, back in the '90s. He's still keeping the
faith.

This is an early show (starts at 8:00 p.m.) & they're serious because
there's another different show set to start at 10:00 p.m.

Saturday, December 3
The Shotdowns (http://www.myspace.com/theshotdowns)
Richard Bacchus & the Luckiest Girls (
http://www.myspace.com/richardbacchus)

The Bamfs (http://www.facebook.com/thebamfs)
Of Whiskey and Blood (http://www.reverbnation.com/ofwhiskeyandblood)

This is actually a full-blown fest called Lobotomy Fest, and this is the
complete lineup:

Saturday, December 3
Kenny Roby (http://www.kennyroby.com)
American Aquarium (http://www.americanaquarium.com/)
Shovels & Rope (
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shovels-and-Rope/169655923048543)
Pour House, Raleigh

American Aquarium are pretty darn popular (and while I can't explain it,
presumably this article in the
Indy<http://www.indyweek.com/indyweek/american-aquarium-the-triangles-premier-road-warriors-might-have-found-their-formula/Content?oid=2715999>
will
be able to). This is a live-album recording session show, so arrive early
if you want your screeches to be memorialized in perpetuity.

Saturday, December 3
Savage Knights (http://www.retroactivedynamics.com)
Yohimbe (http://www.myspace.com/partywithyohimbe)
9 Fingered Thug (http://ninefingeredthug.com/)
Buttfinger
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Nine Fingered Thug are amazing both for their sheer volume, and for the
astonishing range of fuzzed-out crazy tones Irene Moon is capable of
pulling out of her trashed-out battered electric organ. Definitely best
experienced live, and as close as you can get to her massive amplifier.

Saturday, December 3
Gray Young (http://www.myspace.com/grayyoung)
Slim's, Raleigh

Sunday, December 4
The Bastages (http://www.reverbnation.com/thebastages)
WXDU 88.7 FM, Durham

The Bastages are a bunch of cranky old men who were playing punkrock in
Durham in the mid-80s -- two of them, Danny Hooley and Chris Eubank, were
in the Ugly Americans, certainly the best-known punk/hardcore band from
Durham in the 80s. They've all spent plenty of time in other types of bands
since then, but the lure of 3-chord punkrock is eternal.

4:00 p.m. at 88.7 FM or wxdu.org.

Sunday, December 4
Girls Rock NC (http://www.girlsrocknc.org/)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

This is a showcase of Girls Rock NC teenage bands, I assume. It's in the
early slot, which means around 7:30 or so.

Sunday, December 4
Midtown Dickens (http://www.myspace.com/midtowndickens)
Phil Cook and his Feat (http://philcookandhisfeat.bandcamp.com/)
The Pinhook, Durham

Per the Pinhook's website: "Come celebrate 5 years of edible landscaping in
the Triangle with Bountiful Backyards! This event is a fundraiser to
support a new urban farm project in East Durham. There will be a reception
with appetizers and drink specials from 7-8:30, also a cake walk with
special prizes! Then the music… "

Sunday, December 4

Schooner (http://www.schoonermusic.com)
Slim's, Raleigh

Monday, December 5
Civil Wars
Page Auditorium, Durham

Roomrunner
Kings, Raleigh

Monday, December 5
Calico Haunts (http://www.myspace.com/calicohaunts)
Strand of Oaks (http://www.myspace.com/strandofoaks)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Will I have to drive to Chapel Hill on a Monday night just to get an update
on what's happening with Calico Haunts & their tragically lost/delayed next
album? I loved their last one SO MUCH.

Tuesday, December 6
Amy LaVere (http://www.amylavere.com)
The Casbah, Durham

Tuesday, December 6
Max Bemis (http://www.sayanythingmusic.com/)
Sherri Dupree (http://sdupreebemis.tumblr.com/)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Wednesday, December 7
Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion (http://www.sarahleeandjohnny.com)
Amanda Jo Williams (http://www.amandajowilliams.net/)
Curtis Eller (http://www.myspace.com/curtiseller)
The Pinhook, Durham

Wednesday, December 7
Dark Water Rising (http://www.reverbnation.com/darkwaterrising)
Laila Nur (http://www.reverbnation.com/lailanur)
The Casbah, Durham

Wednesday, December 7
Boat Burning (http://www.myspace.com/boatburning)
Max Rocket (http://www.reverbnation.com/maxrocket)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Boat Burning prime mover Andy Fekete recently left the Triangle, so this is
a fairly rare appearance by the space/improv outfit.

Thursday, December 8
Beirut (http://www.beirutband.com/)
Perfume Genius (http://www.matadorrecords.com/perfume_genius/)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Thursday, December 8 - Saturday, December 10
The Great Cover-Up (http://www.kingsbarcade.com)
Kings, Raleigh

Ahh, the Great Cover-Up, that annual fantasia where local bands (or one-off
pickup ensembles) get together to learn 4-5 song sets by one of their
favorite bands. Some folks get into it with costumes & wigs; others
concentrate on pulling off the music. A tiny few manage both. A grand time
is had by all.

Thursday, December 8
Hume (http://www.myspace.com/humesongs)
Matt Northrup (
http://www.fullspectrumrecords.com/artists/matt_northrup.html)
The Pinhook, Durham

Thursday, December 8
Trepak (http://www.myspace.com/trepaktheband)
Lights Resolve
Motorco Music Hall, Durham
