Hammer No More the Fingers (http://www.hnmtf.com)
Lonnie Walker (http://www.myspace.com/lonniewalker)
Free Electric State (http://www.myspace.com/freeelectricstate)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Three different takes on the Triangle's most abundant indigenous artform,
indie-rock.

Friday, November 18
Gross Ghost (http://www.myspace.com/grossghost)
Lachi (http://www.reverbnation.com/lachi)
Meridian Gold
The Cave, Chapel Hill

Gross Ghost released a pair of super-catchy EPs in the first half of 2011,
but those didn't really prepare me for how awesome they were when I saw
them playing at Hopscotch. Super high-energy guitar-pop with just the right
amount of fuzzed-out edge.

Carolina Theatre, Durham

Saturday, November 19
Twilighter (http://twilighter.net/)
Lake and Hennepin
La Salamandra, Durham

Another show booked by Craig of the Layabout: Twilighter are from Orange,
Chatham & Alamance Counties, and somehow bridge the gap between rural
southern indie-rock and the Velvet Underground. Lake & Hennepin are a side
project of Reese McHenry of the Dirty Little Heaters.

Saturday, November 19
Jeffrey Lewis (http://www.thejeffreylewissite.com)
Matt Northup (https://profiles.google.com/101233178316279097229)
Duke Coffeehouse, Durham

Local raconteur & antifolk expert Stephen Mullaney of the Wigg Report
consistently rants & raves at me regarding exactly two musicians: Hammell
on Trial and Jeffrey Lewis.

Saturday, November 19
Kingsbury Manx (http://www.thekingsburymanx.com/)
Lilac Shadows (http://www.reverbnation.com/lilacshadows)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

The Kingsbury Manx got turbocharged sometime in the last year or so,
converting their sleepy pastoral organ-pop into something more akin to
slightly Southern-inflected Deep Purple, in a [very] good way.

Lilac Shadows is ex-Huguenot Sam Logan & some of his T0W3RS bandmates.

Saturday, November 19
Guardian Alien (http://www.myspace.com/theguardianalien)
Slim's, Raleigh

Guardian Alien are spearheaded by the amazing former Liturgy drummer Greg
Fox. Before most folks outside of their neighborhood had heard of them,
they'd received an excellent writeup in the NY
Times<http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/27/arts/music/guardian-alien-at-shea-stadium-review.html>
.

The Cave, Chapel Hill

Saturday, November 19
The Bleeding Hearts
The Ts (http://www.myspace.com/thettttt)
DIVEbar, Raleigh

Rock-n-roll.

Sunday, November 20
9 Fingered Thug (http://ninefingeredthug.com/)
WXDU 88.7 FM, Durham

Nine Fingered Thug are a truly dark & bizarre entity, consisting of Sam
Mauney (ex-Picasso Trigger), Scott Craddock (ex-Pine State, ex-BeatlesS)
and Irene Moon. They crash & clang & bellow & the whole thing is knit
together with Irene's demonic organ playing.

Live for your listening pleasure at 4:00 p.m. at 88.7 FM or wxdu.org.

Sunday, November 20
Chuck Johnson
Fan Modine (http://www.grimsey.com/fanmodine.html)
Mark Holland
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Since former Spatula guitarist Chuck Johnson has been living in the SF Bay
Area for a few years now, a local show by him is a rare treat indeed &
should be treated as such.

I'm told that this is a full-band Fan Modine show, by the way.

The Casbah, Durham

Sunday, November 20

Shadows are both great fuzzed-but-melodic indie-rock/pop/garage bands.
