So many good things going on this week! As always, thanks to everyone
who makes events at Internationalist Books such successes! Here is a
look at what is going on at the bookstore but also in the community in
the coming weeks. In particular, note the Occupy Chapel Hill event
coming up this Saturday--let the occupation begin!

THIS WEEK

PUBLIC
HEARING ON HYDRAULIC FRACTURING (HYDRO-FRACKING): MON 10/10 AT 6PM,
Sanford, NC (address below)

The Department of Environment and Natural
Resources will be holding a public hearing on hydraulic fracturing.
Croatan Earth First! will begin a rally outside around 6:00 p.m. and
then folks will go in to participate in a public comment session. The
session begins at 6:30pm.

Hydraulic fracturing is a risky process to
extract natural gas from shale deposits. The process uses millions of
gallons of freshwater and contaminates that water with toxic chemicals.
Many of which are carcinogenic. At the hearing, officials from DENR will
be seeking comments from the public on what to include in their study of
hydraulic fracturing. As a community of concerned citizens we need to
ensure that DENR is asking and answering the right questions.

McSwain Extension Education & Agriculture Center, 2420 Tramway

"IF A
TREE FALLS: A STORY OF THE EARTH LIBERATION FRONT" CROATAN EARTH FIRST!
MOVIE NIGHT: THURS 10/20 AT 7PM

Marshall Curry's documentary tells a
timely story of political action and environmental beliefs at
loggerheads. His reconstruction of the recent history and unraveling of
the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) is a fascinating exploration of a
modern revolutionary movement and its efficacy. Fusing fervent concerns
about ecological imbalance and capitalism run amok, ELF members and
sleeper cells employed economic sabotage by destroying facilities
involved in deforestation to remove the profit potential from companies
wreaking environmental destruction.
