Durham Public School Movie Night: "Showgirls"
Thursday
September 8, 7pm
'Showgirls' is the next film in 'THE LINE: Sexual
Frontiers of Popular Cinema,' a series of screenings and conversations
hosted by The Public School Durham [durham.thepublicschool.org]. Each
film marks a different place where audiences and/or film-makers judged a
movie to "cross the line" at the edge of decency. While it has been
consistently ranked as one of the worst films ever made, Showgirls has
become regarded as a cult classic.**Next Week**

Naked Wine: Letting Grapes Do What Comes Naturally (Author
Reading)
Thursday September 22, 7pm
(rsvp on facebook!
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=172620862813125 [2])
Come on out
to hear author Alice Feiring read from and discuss her new book! Naked
wine is wine stripped down to its basics--wine as it was meant to be:
wholesome, exciting, provocative, living, sensual, and pure. Naked, or
natural, wine is the opposite of most New World wines today; Alice
Feiring calls them "overripe, over-manipulated, and overblown" and makes
her case that good (and possibly great) wine can still be made, if only
winemakers would listen more to nature and less to marketers, and stop
using additives and chemicals. But letting wine make itself is harder
than it seems. Feiring is a wine and travel columnist for Time magazine,
contributes to The New York Times, New York Magazine, San Francisco
Chronicle, LA Times, Condé Nast Traveler and Forbes Traveler, and her
blog "The Feiring Line" is considered among America's leading wine
blogs.
