Thursday, September 1
The Old Ceremony (http://www.theoldceremony.com/)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

This is a FREE show to show off the newly-renovated/reconfigured Cat's
Cradle. Over the past couple of months, in phases, the Cradle has undergone
its first major interior renovation since the door moved from the back to
the front 16+ years ago.

At the Archers shows last week, the drop ceiling had been removed, as had
the risers & the partial wall between the bar area & the main room. I had
the impression that a whole lot was left to do, however. This'll be one of
your first chances to check out the results.

Thursday, September 1
Vieux Farka Toure (http://www.vieuxfarkatoure.com/)
Diali Cissokho and Kairaba (
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Diali-Cissokho-Kairaba/173915469321405)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

I was a lot more excited about Ali Farka Toure's son Vieux before I heard
about his Dave Matthews & Derek Trucks collaborations.

Why Are We Building Such a Big Ship? (
http://www.myspace.com/whyarewebuildingsuchabigship)
Lonnie Walker (http://www.myspace.com/lonniewalker)
The Pinhook, Durham

Pinhook says of O'Death: "A spooky, intense blast of noisy, unhinged
Americana filtered through an post-industrial, science fiction lens. The
sound of fiddles and banjos clash with clattering percussion to create a
woozy, surreal barroom sprawl that is equal parts wild west and no-future.
Touring through town after a stunning performance at the Pitchfork
Festival."

Lilac Shadows (http://www.reverbnation.com/lilacshadows)
The Pinhook, Durham

This year's generation of young/new indie-rock bands. One of these three
bands will be the focus of 2012 buzz -- hedge yr bets and see all three now.

Friday, September 2
Cantwell, Gomez, Jordan (http://www.cantwellgomezandjordan.com)
The Bastages (http://www.reverbnation.com/thebastages)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

This will be the debut of the Bastages' new 4-piece lineup -- that's right:
gtr/bass/drums/frontman, which as we all know is the only proper hardcore
setup.

Cantwell Gomez & Jordan, aka the most consistently confusing band in the
Triangle, are also on the bill.

Naked Gods (http://www.myspace.com/nakedgods)
Yardwork (http://www.myspace.com/wetdigitalredstorm)
Order
Nests (http://digguptapes.com/nests)
Kings, Raleigh

Charlotte band Yardwork are exuberant misfits, standing somewhere on a
narrow wire strung between hippie, punk, and noise/skronk weirdness. In
Charlotte, which isn't exactly universally hospitable to such endeavors.

Saturday, September 3
The Ill Family (http://www.myspace.com/theillfamily)

Phatlynx
The Station, Carrboro

This is part of JAWSfest 4, which features garage/rock all afternoon/evening
& then a screening of JAWS after dark. Or something. Not entirely sure, but
I *am* sure that these are some great garage bands, and at least one of
them, the Bad Checks, are bona fide NC rock legends.

Who was it that used to always talk about Vaz? Was it Tim Herzog
