Brett Harris
The Hounds Below (http://thehoundsbelow.bandcamp.com/)
Cowboy and Indian (http://www.facebook.com/CowboyandIndian)
The Pinhook, Durham
Wednesday, June 8
Subscape Annex (http://www.subscapeannex.com)
Rat Babies (http://www.myspace.com/ratbabies)
Make (http://www.myspace.com/thebandmake)
MUtX
Nightlight, Chapel Hill
I'm really loving Make's ability to wedge both gruff cookiemonster
death vocals & more traditional sung vocals into their music,
sometimes even in the space of a single song. Plus they're more than
heavy & loud enough to hold my attention anyway.
Wednesday, June 8
Fairweather Friends
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh
Thursday, June 9
Casual Curious (http://www.myspace.com/casualcurious)
The Big Picture
Jenny Besetzt
The Pinhook, Durham

All Tiny Creatures & Shedding are both on Hometapes, the label home of
Phil Cook's other band Megafaun.
Thursday, June 9
Birds & Arrows (http://www.myspace.com/birdsandarrows)
Skylar Gudasz and the Ugly Girls (http://www.myspace.com/skylargudasz)

Kingsbury Manx (http://www.thekingsburymanx.com/)
Birds & Arrows (http://www.myspace.com/birdsandarrows)
Kings, Raleigh
All it takes to rekindle your love affair with the Kingsbury Manx is
to put on one of their records -- any one, doesn't matter. Trust me, I
know.
Friday, June 10
Supreme Fiction (http://www.myspace.com/supremefiction)
Jessica Long (http://www.reverbnation.com/jessicalong)
Vess (http://www.facebook.com/thevessband)

Beloved Binge (http://www.myspace.com/belovedbinge)
Bad Cop (http://www.myspace.com/badcopnashville)
2702 Lawndale, Durham
House show at the Layabout! Bring gas money for the out-of-town band,
and vegan treats for Beloved Binge.
Friday, June 10
Secular Joy
The Cave, Chapel Hill
Secular Joy was Mark & Billy from My Dad is Dead plus Rob Koegler &
Zeno Gill. Now that Zeno has moved back to Brooklyn, I'm guessing the
lineup has changed, at least slightly.
Friday, June 10
Blag'ard (http://www.blagard.com/)
Harco
Nightlight, Chapel Hill
Saturday, June 11
Django Haskins (http://www.djangohaskins.com/)
Heather McEntire (http://www.bellafea.com/)
Randy Bickford (http://www.thestrugglers.org)
Lee Waters
Phil Cook and his Feat
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro
This is an album release for the new Brice Randall Bickford album on
Trekky, his first under his own name (vs. his band the Strugglers).
Saturday, June 11
The Rosebuds (http://www.therosebuds.com/)
Charlie the Horse
Kings, Raleigh
This is about three hot seconds away from selling out, if it hasn't
already. The new Rosebuds album, Loud Planes Fly Low, is utterly
gorgeous, by the way, and it carries an emotional intensity that their
earlier work didn't, for reasons that their bio is very upfront about
(i.e. Kelly & Ivan's breakup).
Saturday, June 11
Breaking Laces (http://www.breakinglaces.com)
Monoslang
The Record (http://www.thisistherecord.com/)
The Casbah, Durham
Saturday, June 11
A Rooster for the Masses (http://www.myspace.com/aroosterforthemasses)
Wembley (http://www.myspace.com/wembleystadium)
The Pinhook, Durham
Wembley are consistently one of the most devastatingly lovely bands in
the Triangle.
Saturday, June 11
Thao & Mirah
Led to Sea (http://www.myspace.com/ledtosea)
Bobby (http://www.bobbytheband.com/)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Motorco Music Hall, Durham
Saturday, June 11
Ear Pwr (http://www.myspace.com/earpwr)
Sagan Youth Boys (http://lmgrovllum.org/sybss.html)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill
Ear Pwr just released their second album on Carpark, after moving back
to Asheville from their adopted/temporary home of Baltimore. All the
songs are about trees and lakes and bushes and parks. Do they make
lightsticks in earth tones?
Saturday, June 11
Blood Red River (http://www.myspace.com/bloodredriver)
Virgo 9 (http://www.myspace.com/thevirgonine)
Fujiyama Roll (http://www.myspace.com/fujiyamaroll)
The Cave, Chapel Hill
Saturday, June 11
Secret Cities
The Spacemen
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh
Sunday, June 12
Last Year's Men (http://www.myspace.com/lastyearsmenband)
WXDU 88.7 FM, Durham
Were Last Year's Men my favorite local band of 2010? Probably -- I
intentionally left my list unordered, but revisiting it now, it seems
pretty clear to me.
This is their first visit to WXDU, and given the amount of traveling
they're doing lately (just last month they played two shows with the
Reigning Sound, one in Chicago & one in Austin) it may be a while
before they're able to make a return visit.
So don't sleep on this one! 4pm at 88.7 FM or wxdu.org.
Sunday, June 12
Shipwrecker (http://www.myspace.com/shipwreckermuzak)
