Death to False Hope Records Anniversary Party (http://motorcomusic.com/death-to-false-hope-schedule)
Motorco Music Hall, Durham
Death to False Hope Records is a free download-only web label. This is their giant 2nd-anniversary weekend extravaganza, taking place at the MotorCo and at Fullsteam. There's an article in the Indy this week about it. http://www.indyweek.com/indyweek/death-to-false-hope-records-scotty-sandwich-just-wants-youand-your-kidsto-listen/Content?oid=1966080
Here's the full lineup. http://motorcomusic.com/death-to-false-hope-schedule
Local highlights include Maple Stave, Red Collar, Hammer No More the Fingers, I Was Totally Destroying it & Sorry About Dresden playing back-to-back (they share a drummer, James Hepler), Last Year's Men, the Pneurotics and Pink Flag. Plus about 50 out-of-town punk bands.

Megafaun (http://www.myspace.com/megafaun)
The Tender Fruit (http://www.myspace.com/thetenderfruit)
Kings, Raleigh
This is the first night of a 2-night stand for Megafaun at Kings, and also marks the debut of their new 4-piece lineup with the addition of ex-Ticonderoga / sometime Bowerbirds member Mark Paulson.

Clang Quartet (http://www.myspace.com/clangquartet)

Remora (http://www.silbermedia.com/remora/)
Boyzone (http://www.myspace.com/boyszone)
Teeny Bopper
Nightlight, Chapel Hill
This is a party celebrating the 14th anniversary of the Clang Quartet. Scotty has been a drummer for a whole lot longer than that, but Clang is his longest-running, and clearly most dearly-held, project.

Heron (http://www.reverbnation.com/heronrock)
Orobourus
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh
Saturday, January 22 - Sunday, January 23
Yo La Tengo (http://www.yolatengo.com/)
William Tyler (http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2010/10/a-brief-history-of-william-tyler.html)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro
This is a doubleheader for Yo La Tengo, and if you bought tickets for both nights, you're in luck, because the first YLT set of each night will consist of one of any number of concepts, selected at random by the spin of a giant Wheel of Fortune. Really. Read all about it at their website. http://www.yolatengo.com/news/november-3-2010/
Guitarist William Tyler is the adorably page-boy'd and be-hatted guitar player in Lambchop.

Filthybird (http://www.myspace.com/filthybird)
The Small Ponds
Mollybond
Pour House, Raleigh
Filthybird & the Small Ponds complement each other beautifully; they both make gorgeous, 70s-California influenced artpop, but where Filthybird tend to the psychedelic, dreamy, elegiac, the Small Ponds are more acerbic, like if Joe Henry wrote & performed duets. Highly recommended.
Saturday, January 22
Megafaun (http://www.myspace.com/megafaun)
Cloudlines (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cloudlines/127287017334676)
Kings, Raleigh
This is night two of a 2-night stand for Megafaun (and their second show overall as a newly-minted quartet w/Mark Paulson of Ticonderoga & Bowerbirds). Tonight is also the debut performance by opening band Cloudlines, who are a mix of old Triangle pros & fresh-faced "newcomers," one of whom has already caused an internet sensation with her electropop cover of Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years".

Jenny and the Holzers (http://www.myspace.com/jennyandtheholzers)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill
One part of the Nightlight website says that this show starts at 11, but another part says that Monday Night Trivia is canceled due to this show, which would suggest it starts earlier.
In any case, you should know that Jenny and the Holzers are a NY poppy/punky/riot-grrly band who are 1/4 Dorothy Gambrell, the comix genius behind Cat and Girl (http://catandgirl.com/ ) as well as her remarkable & long-running catalog of stuff she bought with people's donations, Donation Derby. (http://catandgirl.com/dderby/ ) AND they are also 1/4 Mister Chen, Dorothy's partner-in-crime and designer of strange & remarkable t-shirts http://catandgirl.com/?page_id=71 (scroll down!).
Which means, among other things, that they should have some pretty boss t-shirts at the merch table.
