Thanks so much for everyone who came out and threw down for the WXYC Early
90's dance party and the Nightlight Benefit on Sunday.. Both were
spectacular events and greatly appreciated! Mark your calendars for the next
benefit on Saturday, October 30th with Auxiliary House, Shithorse and the
King Kingfisher and His Royal White Pages...
Halloween partay!!

We have a whole slew of fun shows this week starting with TONIGHT all the
way till next Monday with a secret film (surf rock movie) and a CH band to
follow, PHATLYNX..
This is a part of our new series of film nights with live music (genre
related) to follow.. stay tuned!

Plus, don't miss the exciting new Record Release party for Wild Wild Geese
(go Odessa!) and the Saturday DRAG CITY REcords throw-down with Emil (Holy
Sons/ OM) and Scout Niblett..

more details below.
Luv,
Nightlight

* NOW OPEN Mondays thru Saturdays FROM 5 PM ONWARD AS A CAFE AND PERFORMANCE
SPACE!*

*Tues 10/05 Inspector 22 / Ember Schrag / Brian Day / The Migrant - 9:30 PM
$5 *

In a world populated by guns, cigarettes, haldol, Satanism, cannibalism,
cuss words, and heartache, Todd Emmert deals with life by writing the only
way he can: a lot. As Inspector 22, Todd has several self-released discs and
more out on dontrustheruin and Odessa, with even more to come. By the time
you read this, a disc called "Friends in High Places" will be on the shelves
of fine area retailers. Come out tonight to hear these songs in the live
setting. Lincoln, NE's Ember Schrag is a songwriter who lands somewhere
between Scout Niblett and Karen Dalton, writing about land and space and
hope and despair. Brian Day and Danish psych-songwriter The Migrant open.

*early Wed 10/06 Open Old Time Jam! :: all are welcome:: 5-9 PM : FREE*

*later Wed 10/06 Pairdown <http://www.myspace.com/pairdown> (Pittsburgh) /
Wood
Ear <http://www.myspace.com/woodear> (Durham) - 9:30 PM: pass the hat
style...
*

Pairdown is David Leicht and Raymond Morin. They perform as a duo, drawing
from a repertoire of fingerstyle guitar duets and songs. Their newest
project, Petrifidelity, is a limited-edition, handmade tablature book with
accompanying audio CD. Prior releases include: Holykyle, a full-length LP
blending folk rock, blues and experimental music; and the eponymous EP, a
short collection of acoustic songs.

Since 2005, Pairdown has performed on bills with: Death Vessel, Jack Rose,
David Daniell & Douglas McCombs, Glenn Jones, D. Charles Speer, Mountains,
unFact, Brokeback, Great Lake Swimmers, Nick Schillace, Keenan Lawler,
Wooden Wand, The Impossible Shapes, Kurt Weisman, Jon Mueller’s Physical
Changes, Micah Blue Smaldone, Eleni Mandell, Milo Jones, Noveller, Mike
Tamburo, Simon Joyner, Sin Ropas, Red Horse, The Ditty Bops, etc.

Durham Americana troupe Wood Ear open the evening.

*Thurs 10/07 Neill Prewitt (Yuxtapongo Episodes <http://yuxtapongo.com/>) /
Alexis Gideon (Portland, video artist) /*

*9 Fingered Thug / Mecanikill *

* 9:30 PM :: $6 *

Neill and Alexis return to the Nightlight with their video manipulations,
collages, stop-motion, animation, electronic music, and wild times. Nine
Fingered Thug is the latest Irene Moon project-- along with Lincoln Hancock,
Scott Craddock, and Samuel Minttu, Irene creates organ tunes with
pitch-shifted vocals for doom/industrial backdrops. I get scared every time
I hear it. Mecanikill boasts the distinction of currently being #1 on
ReverbNation's Electronica/Dance charts for Carrboro, NC, but this ain't no
dance music. Prepare for sample-heavy noise/industrial/power electronics,
and the possibility that people actually will dance to it.

* Fri 10/08 Odessa Record Release for WILD WILD
GEESE<http://www.myspace.com/wildwildgeesemusic>/ Drunk
Tigers <http://www.myspace.com/drunktigers> / Bad

*

Rob Dipatri-helmed fuzz-poppers Wild Wild Geese have delivered their first

Placemats-meets-Pavement rockers Drunk Tigers and Nashville psych-garage
boys Bad Cop open.

*Sat 10/09 Scout Niblett <http://www.myspace.com/scoutniblett> (Drag City) /
HOLY SONS <http://www.myspace.com/holysons> / Michael Holland with Peas and
Collards <http://www.myspace.com/michaelhollandmusic>/ Bad Mr. Viswas and
the Family : 9:30 PM : $7 *

Secretly Canadian's long-time dark siren Scout Niblett put out an excellent
record on Drag City this year that took elements of minimal wave, 90's
posthardcore, and British folk to create something both beautiful and
haunting. Holy Sons take the same slow-burn approach to songwriting that
will appeal to fans of Boatman's Call-era Cave, the Black Heart Procession,
and Will Oldham's darkness moments. Local blues-rock veterans Michael
Holland with Peas and Collards and Raleigh's soul-pop songsters BMV and the
Family open. "Get a chance to hear your town favorite, sitarist Mr. Viswas
Chitnis, on keys!"

*Sun 10/10 Steve Gunn <http://www.myspace.com/pyramidmerchandise> (Three
Lobed Records) / Ezekiel <http://www.myspace.com/ezekielgraves>
Graves<http://www.myspace.com/ezekielgraves>/Villages<http://www.myspace.com/villagesmusic>(Asheville)
-
*

*9:30 PM: $6*

Steve Gunn spent the mid-decade playing guitar in the revered
American-Primitive-meets-Indian-classical-music trio GHQ with Marcia Bassett
(Double Leopards, Zaimph) and Pete Nolan (Magik Markers). In the past few
years, he has put out a few Basho/Fahey-inspired acoustic gems on Three
Lobed and Digitalis, all the while continuing electric exploration.
Asheville's Ross Gentry creates beautiful, cascading electronic dronescapes
as Villages. Both artists have new records on Asheville's Harvest Recordings
and will be accompanied by visual artist Megan McKissack, who will create
projections during both sets. Local steel-stringer Ezekiel Graves (Kinoeye,
DATAHATA) gets the sandwich spot.

*Mon 10/11 Secret FILM NIGHT! Movie at 8pm, Live Music to follow at 9:30 PM*

*PHATLYNX*

Here's a fun Monday of film and music! After the first movie, a second movie
will be live-scored by Phatlynx, the local Link Wray tribute band helmed by
"Cousin" Crispy Bess. Good times, great power chords.
