=95 8P Bill Toms (rock/americana/folk)
Bill Toms has evolved to become one of the best orators in the music
world today. He is definitely the reincarnate troubadour. With a
guitar, a pen, a lot of passion, Bill Toms connects to an audience and
embraces the American traditions of rhythm, blues, soul, folk, and
country. His gifts of music and storytelling, paired with his creative
compulsion for songs that burrow deep into the soul, have his
dedicated fans continually coming back for more.

"Bill Toms has been around the Pittsburgh rock scene for a long time
and, if you have to lay handle on his music, I=92ll go with roots rock
aka a combination of blues, rock, country and just about anything
style-wise that this country has cooked up in its history. 'Another
Moonlight Mystery' hits all the Americana highlights on Route 66
without having to get a Triptik from the AAA. Peanuts"
Peanuts - Jazz And Blues Report=95 Issue 327

"Bill Toms & Hard Rain- "Sweat Stained Shirts" (Live At Moondog's)
Solid live album from one of Pittburgh's finest Blue-Collared Soul/
Blues musicians. This tracks shows Bill's pride in his Pittsburgh
roots through the town's steel mill history. Someone get this song to
Bruce Springsteen ASAP. "

=95 10P Stratocruiser (rock/powerpop) and Penny Prophets (alt/country/
soul)

Stratocruiser: July 27, 2010 is the official release date for "OUR NEW
EP". New Atlas Digital Recordings announces the impending release of
the latest stratocruiser collection, "Our New EP," available on iTunes
and other digital outlets on July 27, 2010. The songs on the new
release run the gamut from the minor chord driven angular pop of "New
Glasses," to the crunchy classic sound of "OK Class." Included on the
release is the 2009 single, "Kids Hate Rock and Roll," which was
chosen as the song of the year for 2009 by Pop Garden Radio, WMEL in
Melbourne, FL. Four of these songs were previously available on the
extremely limited edition 300 copies of "OK Class, the best of
stratocruiser and more," which was released in November of 2009. "This
will represent the first wide release of these 4 songs, plus three
brand new recordings, including a blistering cover of the Partridge
Family classic, "I Woke Up In Love This Morning." said label chief,
Miguel Guzman. "This EP is just a glimpse into the writing and
recording that has been going on since the 2008 release of Eggshells."
Guznman continues," The lead track, slush, shows a new side to the
band, and showcases the guitar work of lead guitarist Mike Nicholson,
and the vocals of Clay Howard. The new EP shows a band determined to
continue challenging themselves in both writing and performance."

Penny Prophets: A penny to read your fortune? A penny is a fortune!
After mining the territory of roots music for the past decade or
more Randy Whitt has decided to take on some new challenges. =93I am
still just a songwriter trapped within my youth; I want to express
myself in a myriad of ways=94. Randy has been playing guitar for twenty
years, but has never had a vehicle to demonstrate the emotion of
playing the instrument. Rather than be limited to a specific genre,
Randy is focusing now on a broad =93Rock=94 music palette. If modern
"roots" music isn=92t by definition derivative then what is? Led
Zeppelin, Neil Young, Cream, what is =93Rock=94 music? The =93Penny
Prophets=94 intend to find out. =93No one seems to play Rock anymore.=94
That is what the =93Penny Prophets=94 are going to do.
Randy Whitt and Jamie Sneeringer grew up on the Deep River in High
Falls, NC playing guitar and writing songs. Alongside Susie Hicks on
fiddle and keyboards, Josh Sokal on bass, and Matt Brown on drums they
make up Penny Prophets (formerly Scatterbones), an eclectic mix of
Rock and Americana with hints of old school R&B and British
psychedelia.
The new record from the penny prophets will be coming out on June
4th, 2010.

=95 8P Near Blind James and Harmonica Bob
Near-Blind James (James Shoe) and Harmonica Bob (Robert Waldrop) have
been playing blues together for over 30 years. Originally from
Greenville, NC, they play a variety of blues styles but focus on
Piedmont and Ragtime styles, much of which originated in this area.
Piedmont blues were strongest in the 1930=92s and 1940=92s, prior to the
amplified sound commonly played now. Many of the artists they have
studied, lived and played in and around Durham. These include Blind
Boy Fuller, Sonnie Terry & Brownie McGhee and The Reverend Gary Davis.
They also throw in a dose of Hokum, Rockabily, Atlanta Blues, Gospel
(not quite what you might be used to), Delta Blues and whatever else
makes them happy. James has been playing metal-bodied dobro and guitar
in the fingerpicked style used in Piedmont blues since he was 12 and
helped Bob to get hooked on Blues music in the late 70=92s. Bob plays
harmonica and both sing, often on-key and in occasionally in harmony.
NBJ and HCA Bob have performed at most every sort of club, venue,
street fair or gathering that calls for music in various acoustic and
electric formats including: 5 Guys Named Moe, The Cavemen, The
Phantoms, The Jive Bombers, Cool Papa Bel and The Soul Duprees, James
Get On The Good Foot Shoe and His Progressivaires, and have shared the
stage with The Right Reverend Billy Wirtz, Bo Diddely, Big Boy Henry
and John D Holeman to mention a few. =93The only jobs we haven=92t played
are a Bar or Bat Mitzvah and we=92re looking for that one now if
anyone=92s interested =93. They play what they mean and mean what they
play. Sure to please.

=95 10P Johnny Fulsom (country/alty tonk/outlaw country)
>From "A Boy Named Sue" to "Ring of Fire," four of Raleigh's favorite
musical sons pay tribute to the Man in Black with the Johnny Folsom
Four. True to the Mr Cash's poetic spirit, the JF4 promises an honest
and entertaining performance for fans of all ages.

While nobody sounds like Mr. Cash, lead singer David Burney brings a
lilting southern baritone to Cash's classic songs which hits the mark
well enough that you may wonder on occasion if Johnny, himself, is in
the building. David Gresham more than meets the challenge of filling
in for Luther and Carl Perkins on those classic guitar licks. And Joey
Ward (bass) and Randy Benefield (drums) provide the hallmark, train-
like driving rhythm the whole world loves. When it comes to honoring
Johnny Cash, JF4 walks the line.

=95 11P The Kinksmen (Kinks Covers by the Jeff Hart Band)
American (North Carolina) guitarist, singer and songwriter. Has
incited the occasional riot here and there with the Americana styled
Brown Mountain Lights (disbanding in April 2007), The Nervous Grooms,
The Panther Branch Boys, The Hanks, The Frosted Sugar Bombs & his own
rock combo Jeff Hart & The Ruins.
Recent projects include part time Neil Young / Crazy Horse cover band
"Young Neil and The Damage Done", Meltzer-Hart (with Tom Meltzer), and
a Television (Marquee Moon era) tribute band called Amps Do Furnish a
Room in which the artist and album changes every year. He's played
bass and guitar with other NC standouts such as the Two Dollar
Pistols, Chris Stamey's Big Band and Robert Kirkland & The Hanks
following the breakup of Arrogance. A 20 year veteran of the NC music
meat grinder, primarily in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill clubs.
Though original in his pop-craft, his indie-roots guitar influences
can be traced to the Flying Burrito Brothers, The Beatles, The Byrds,
Neil Young, The Kinks, Tom Petty, the Replacements and even
Television.

=95 8P Paul Daniel (folk rock/acoustic)
Paul Daniel is a powerful singer/songwriter and guitarist from
Raleigh, North Carolina. Paul thrives on the raw purity of one man and
one instrument, yet is always pushing for an even fuller folk rock
sound. His guitar work is layered and complex drawing influences from,
rock, blues, country, bluegrass and folk. Imagine Bruce Springsteen,
Mark Knopfler, Norman Blake and Jerry Garcia all channeled into one
guitar. The result is a rich foundation for songs with vivid scenes,
lingering stories and unforgettable lyrics.

=95 4:30P BSC Kids!
It's FUN and it's FREE! (tips are greatly appreciated)
Come to the Broad Street Cafe on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month
(October thru March) and enjoy some great entertainment that's
designed for kids but that's guaranteed to be fun for all ages.

Featuring: Big Bang Boom (band)
Big Bang Boom is a power pop trio that writes and performs parent-
friendly children=92s music. The live show is high-energy, and gets the
crowd involved. From getting the kids on stage for the =93Spongebob
Chorus=94 to the parents vs. kids hokey pokey challenge =96 there is no
sitting down!

What happens when professional musicians become parents? They play
and write children's music. This is the path taken by Big Bang Boom, a
children's music group from Greensboro. After 20 years touring clubs
and playing parties, Chuck Folds (younger brother of piano rocker Ben
Folds) and Steve Williard decided to expand their horizons and play
for kids. Together with drummer Eddie Walker they have become the
parent friendly kid's rock band alternative.

Big Bang Boom is designed to give parents something else to listen
to besides Disney music and the Wiggles. There is some good quality
children's music being recorded these days. You can catch it on any
kid-friendly TV station, and now you can hear it live too.
Big Bang Boom plays some children's favorites as well as their own
original songs for kids.

=95 7:30P - Sunday Night Jazz Series
