hey folks,

it's almost time for another friday night house show at the layabout (aka
2702 lawndale ave. in durham). rock out and sleep in! yesssss!!!

this one will start at 9ish and as per usual it's all-ages, B.Y.O.B. i'm
recommending y'all bring a $6 donation but please give what you can spare! 2
touring bands this time around so be generous!

also, just a reminder: the layabout is a house in a residential neighborhood
so please be smart, be respectful of the neighbors!

WHATEVER BRAINS (raleigh) are making their long-awaited layabout debut! been
a fan for a long while now and damn, i can't wait to see these dudes in a
house. if yr reading this, you probably know and love 'em already... if not,
razorcake 'zine sums them up thusly: "top notch, weirdo garage punk that’s
all rock and no hype." agreed.http://myspace.com/whateverbrains

THE CAPSTAN SHAFTS (w. virginia / rainbow quartz) is the band/alias of lo-fi
rock'n'roll songwriting genius dean wells. it's a mystery to me that this
dude isn't world-famous by now...over the past 10 or so years he's written
HUNDREDS of perfect slices of garage pop that win you over quick, then never
get the chance to wear out their welcome (think 'bee thousand' era-guided by
voices and yr getting close!) this is a SUPER-RARE performance that isn't
part of any tour... i think you can count on yr hands the number of times
this band has played for audiences and those shows were mostly NYC shows or
in dean's old hometown in vermont... DON'T MISS THIS!!!

THE SUPER VACATIONS (virginia / shdwply) are on a mini-tour of NC with
whatever brains. their songs are psychedelic and SHORT...much love! here's
what the wire (uk) sez: "The Super Vacations make exploratory psychedelia
without invoking many of the usual shorthand; no jams, no endless guitar
solos, no purple loons. In their precise understanding of the deep structure
and sonic sleight-of-hand of the best psychedelic music, their debut feels
as fresh as any first generation cosmonauts."http://myspace.com/meetthe
vacations

can't wait!!

yrs,
craig layabout
