do is turn up early and get your name down to perform. Originals and
cover music of every style and genre are welcome! Open mic is a great
way to practice your art and can also can be a proving ground for new

encouraging for everybody.

=95 8P Jasm=E9 Kelly (singer/songwriter)
Jasm=E9 began playing guitar while attending the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received a degree in performance
studies. While in North Carolina she also received the Durham County
Emerging Artist Grant.
Jasm=E9 was brought into the industry by the Wyclef Jean of the
Refugee Camp, and has opened for such luminaries as George Duke,
Stanley Clarke, Al DiMeola, Jean-Luc Ponty, Maceo Parker, Boney James,
Al Jarreau, Jonathan Butler and Peter White. The highly esteemed bass
master Anthony Jackson is even featured on two songs on her album. She
has also packed countless historic venues in New York City such as
CBGB, Caf=E9 Wha?, The Bitter End, The Village Underground, Joe's Pub
and Malik Yoba's Soul Caf=E9.
In addition to being a talented performer, Jasm=E9 is also an
accomplished songwriter, having co-written the song "Holla!" as
performed by The Baha Men (of legendary "Who Let The Dogs Out?" fame).
"Holla!" has been used internationally in: "Garfield: The Movie";
"Kicking and Screaming" (with Will Ferrell); the television shows "Las
Vegas," "Malcolm in the Middle" and "JAG"; and the video game "Beach
Volleyball: Dead or Alive"

=95 10P Hearts and Daggers (americana/country/southern rock)
Hearts and Daggers cannot be summed up into a one-word genre; easily
identifiable for immediate classification. Hearts and Daggers is not
bluegrass; nor is it pop-country or Haggard-era outlaw country. It is
also too far removed from power chords to be cow punk, yet Hearts and
Daggers live the hangovers and heartaches and reconstitute country
music into what it SHOULD be nowadays; part chain-gang chants, part
field hollers, part Jimmie Rodgers tuberculosis blues, part Jimmie
Martin bluegrass harmonies, part Hank Sr., part Johnny Cash but most
of all, ORIGINAL. Songs about killing, fightin, love, sinners,
estranged lovers, murderers, and good men gone wrong. Songs that make
you want to drink, dance, weep, holler, yell, and say Amen.

Friday, July 30
=95 8P Griffanzo
Robert Griffin, alias Griffanzo, has been performing on piano and
vocals in triangle for over 30 years. With Squirrel Nut Zippers, Taz
Halloween, Ray Codrington and Stu Cole in the mix of a long list of
the areas best musicians, griffanzo has covered a lot of ground
musically as well as geographically. The recent cd, Ain't My Kinda
Strange by the artist Griffanzo has just been released and includes
drummer Frank Worrell, bassist Don Gladstone, as well as Codrington,
Halloween and Carter Minor. Adding more than the usual jazz originals,
the griffanzo cd includes severals songs defying catagory, including
Girl #0024 (the video is on youtube under griffanzo), Fred was Here
and Katrina. All the cd info, bio, song clips and blogs are on
griffanzo.com.

After a busy year touring with the Zippers and producing a cd the
performing schedule is not up to it's usual busy standard. Expect that
to change! Schedule will be posted on the site as well and I hope to
carry some more dates at Broad Street Cafe in a variety of
incarnations.

=95 10P The Alpha Theory (rock/soul/hip hop)
The Alpha Theory exploded onto North Carolina=92s underground music
scene in 2008, playing exclusive venues while also touring up and down
the east coast. Since opening for legendary hip-hop producer 9th
Wonder, Universal Motown Record=92s pop-rock band SafetySuit, national
artist Citizen Cope and world-renowned author and poet Nikki Giovanni,
The Alpha Theory has quickly become a recognized name in North
Carolina. With Jesse Seibold on drums, Nathan Woolard strumming bass,
Jeff Taylor electrifying riffs on guitar and music award-winning
singer Jocelyn Ellis on vocals, The Alpha Theory delivers an
unparalleled blend of rock, soul, funk, reggae and hip-hop,
collectively defined as the genre urban-folk.

The birth of the bands eclectic sound came when Jocelyn and Jesse met
in a business course in college and expressed a shared passion for
making music. Soon after, Jesse invited Jocelyn to one of his band
practices where other veteran musicians Jeff and Nathan were waiting.
Their chemistry was instant as four no-boundary musicians decided to
break all the rules and leave nothing out of the mix during their jam
sessions. Combined influences from The Police, Led Zeppelin, Les
Claypool, Jimmy Hendrix, Etta James and drummer Dave Weckel began
shaping a dynamic sound that has given rise to musical revolution The
Alpha Theory.

Melding the essence of their styles, The Alpha Theory released their
debut EP, In the Beginning (2009), generating an immediate buzz that
placed them in rotation at radio stations WPEG Power 98 and 106.5 FM.
With 9th Wonder produced hit =93Sell Me A Cloud=94 and several songs from
their EP spinning on airwaves, the band hit the road for a 10-city
tour playing shows in New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, North
Carolina and Georgia. Within just a year-and-a-half, the crazed
response from the public has catapulted The Alpha Theory into a
musical arena primed for national success.

>From writing and producing their own music to delivering an undeniably
entertaining on-stage chemistry, this up-and-coming band has what it
takes to bring their music to the next level. Currently in the process
of writing and recording their first full-length album, The Alpha
Theory continues to push boundaries via their dynamic sound and unique
cross appeal to lovers of all music genres. Whether traveling on tour,
recording new projects or giving magazine and radio interviews, The
Alpha Theory is doing everything it takes to break new ground and
become a recognized name in the music industry worldwide.

=95 8P The Drowning Lovers (alt/lounge/noir)
Quirky Lounge-Noir with bursts of retro 1950=92s, jazz, and blues
influences. Witty, satirical, and heartbreaking lyrics that stick.
After meeting through mutual contacts in Chapel Hill and NYC, The
Drowning Lovers formed in December 2009 with a shared concept of
writing through the eyes of fictional characters set in a specific
location. Our locale, we decided, would be a flophouse. We each wished
to involve vivid imagery in our content and to create a sound
connecting with eras past. Creatively, this provided a joint base from
which to begin our work. After putting together the first several
songs, we let go of =93the flophouse rule=94 and trusted our instincts as
a band to carry on and build from this platform.

=9510P Geri-X (indie/rock)
Bulgarian-born Geri X is a composer, a musician and a singer hard to
put a label on. Fans and critics spotted it from the moment she broke
onto the Tampa Bay music scene: Geri is an artist with a singular
sound you have not heard before. One can see it in the way she
confidently plays her Babicz guitar, eyes half open and soul pouring
out with a rich, crisp and mesmerizing voice. What started with a
classical training in piano, guitar and voice, evolving out of a broad
and eclectic blend of influences, has become wonderfully her own. In
the process of sharing her songs, Geri bares her soul to ease the
audience=92s emotions. It is the strength of the voice and the charge to
each word that draws them to a halt. =93Geri X is a poet, rebel, and a
singer with a voice that is demanding to be heard. She carries the
intensity of a Mike Tyson punch with the serene beauty of one of the
best female vocalists of this era=94 (L.A. Post) She has received
countless accolades for her work, including Creative Loafing=92s Best
Singer Songwriter for 2 years in a row, as well as playing Summerfest
and Steel Bridge Song Festival in the last few years. Aside from being
a workaholic and an alluring performer, often carrying out few shows
in a day, Geri is a prolific songwriter. This is a fundamental
quality, which combined with her work ethic and the gift of sharing
make her a true artist: one you can connect to. Whether with a full
band or on stage with just a guitar, she is simply captivating. One
only needs to experience it.
