Thursday, June 10
Blag'ard (http://www.blagard.com/)
Wesley Wolfe
Jason Kutchma
The Pinhook, Durham
Jason Kutchma is frontman to local anthem-rockers Red Collar. Wesley
Wolfe used to be in a band called Grasshopper (you might remember their
minor local hit "Ex-Sunbeam") & he's recently released his second solo
album, which is most excellent as well.

Gray Young (http://www.myspace.com/grayyoung)
Free Electric State (http://www.myspace.com/freeelectricstate)
Unholy Tongues (http://www.myspace.com/unholytongues)
Reservoir, Carrboro
The universally-acclaimed local shoegaze act Gray Young pair up with
their like-minded, Nth-British-Invasion-influenced compadres Free
Electric State to bend your mind with their spoons.
Friday, June 11
Wild Wild Geese (http://www.myspace.com/wildwildgeesemusic)
Last Year's Men (http://www.myspace.com/lastyearsmenband)
Church of My Love (http://myspace.com/theloveacts)
2702 Lawndale, Durham
Another show at the ever-busy Layabout House; here's what Craig has to
say about this one:
WILD WILD GEESE are from durham and rep for odessa records. "ex and
current members of americans in france, rongo rongo, and spider bags
making some noise." rock like 'whoa!' no joke. long-time friends of the
layabout finally playing at the house!!!
LAST YEAR'S MEN are making slightly damaged (just right!) lo-fi
garagerock. now affiliated with the mighty churchkey records and ready
to take shit over!
CHURCH OF MY LOVE are on tour from huntsville+montgomery, alabama and
are about to let loose a 12" on the consistently fucking amazing tic tac
totally records. someone spiked the powerpop with punkrock! members of
wizzard sleeve and amber alerts!
Friday, June 11
Beloved Binge (http://www.myspace.com/belovedbinge)
BIg Tree (http://www.myspace.com/bigtreesings)
Joy in Red (http://www.facebook.com/joyinred)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill
Beloved Binge are so busy with their travels & various projects that
they don't actually play around here that often, particularly
considering that there are only 2 of them (and they're married, so their
schedules have some built-in alignment). Speaking of projects, Joy in
Red is a new band with Rob Beloved, Matthew from Sequoya, and a man
named Tofu Mama.
Friday, June 11
Veelee (http://www.myspace.com/seeveelee)
Old Bricks
The Light Pines (http://www.myspace.com/lightpines)
Pour House, Raleigh
Love Language spinoff/precursor the Light Pines join forces with two
young Carrboro duos: Veelee are in love with each other & loop pedals;
Old Bricks are in love with reverb & regret.
Friday, June 11
Birds & Arrows (http://www.myspace.com/birdsandarrows)
Amy Cook (http://www.myspace.com/amycookmusic)
Local 506, Chapel Hill
Friday, June 11
Caleb Caudle & The Bayonets
Martha Ann Motel (http://www.myspace.com/marthaannmotel)
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh
Saturday, June 12
Mount Moriah (http://www.myspace.com/mountmoriah)
The Scene of the Crime Rovers
(http://www.myspace.com/sceneofthecrimerovers)
The Jackets (http://www.reverbnation.com/TheJackets)
DJ Jason Perlmutter (http://www.myspace.com/jasonperlmutter)
Fullsteam Brewery, Durham
This event was put together by the folks behind the forthcoming Durham
Central Market, which will [someday] be a grocery store co-op on Mangum
St near the Bike Co-op. Things get underway around 6pm with Indian food
from Vimala Rajendran (known around Orange County for her long-running
open dinners at her house, and soon-to-be proprietor of Vimala's
Curryblossom Cafe, in Chapel Hill where Sandwhich used to be).
Music starts at 6:30 with Jenks & Heather of Mount Moriah, plus
Raleigh's The Jackets, and our own Scene of the Crime Rovers. After the
bands, XYC DJ and tireless Carolina Soul archivist Jason Perlmutter will
be DJing.
There'll be brewery tours, but due to licensing issues you'll have to
BYOB if you plan to drink.
Saturday, June 12
Double Negative (http://www.myspace.com/thedoublenegative)
Thieves (http://www.myspace.com/thievestildeath)
Shards (http://www.myspace.com/shardsnc)
Pollution (http://www.myspace.com/pollutionpollutionpollution)
White Lung (http://www.myspace.com/whitelungwhitelung)
Berkeley Cafe, Raleigh
Raleigh's Double Negative are unapologetically hardcore - fast songs,
wall-of-frantic guitar, vocalist Kevin Collins' strangled yelps - yet
they explode the genre via passion, imagination, and the kind of loose
precision that comes with having played music, together, separately or
in various combinations, for big chunks of the last 25 years.
Saturday, June 12
Shipwrecker (http://www.myspace.com/shipwreckermuzak)
Wembley (http://www.myspace.com/wembleystadium)
The Cave, Chapel Hill
Wembley make precise, devastating art-pop; Shipwrecker make shambolic,
ramshackle nautical country.
Saturday, June 12
Max Indian (http://www.myspace.com/maxindian)
Bright Young Things
Ryan Gustafson (http://www.myspace.com/ryangustafsonmusic)
Pour House, Raleigh
The Drughorse Collective are part recording collective, part
member-swapping multi-bandmates, and part savvy marketing angle.
Undeniable, however, is the quality of the songwriting, particularly
Ryan Gustafson's Dylanesque indie-rock.
Saturday, June 12
Transportation (http://www.myspace.com/transportation)
North Elementary (http://www.northelementary.com)
Blag'ard (http://www.blagard.com/)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill
Saturday, June 12
Countdown Quartet (http://www.countdownq.com/)
Dexter Romweber and the New Romans
(http://www.myspace.com/dexterromweber)
Local 506, Chapel Hill
Dex's New Romans are his large band - horns, keys, guitars, multiple
backup singers, the works. They really are the ultimate Dexter Romweber
experience, the closest thing you'll get to viewing the world through
his eyes.
Saturday, June 12
Ruscha (http://www.myspace.com/ruscha)
In the Year of the Pig (http://www.southernloveprod.com/ityotp.htm)
Caltrop (http://www.myspace.com/caltropband)
The Pinhook, Durham
If you have one of those irritating friends who tries to claim that all
heavy music sounds the same, drag them to this show. The distance
between the massive Southern stoner-boogie of Caltrop, the endless
drone/throb ecstasy of In the Year of the Pig, and the gtr/drums
instrumetal of Ruscha is measured in Astronomical Units.
Sunday, June 13
Pecosa (formerly Tin Star) (http://www.myspace.com/tinstarnc)
Starmount (http://www.myspace.com/starmountmusic)
Torpor
Natural Science
The Small Ponds
Rebus Works, Raleigh
It's time for another Rebus Fest, held in the cul-de-sac in front of
Rebus Works, there at the gateway to Boylan Heights in Raleigh.
Hopefully this time around Sunday afternoon will turn out gorgeous &
perfect.
Sunday, June 13
Chiaroscuro
This Will Destroy You (http://www.myspace.com/thiswilldestroyyou)
Local 506, Chapel Hill
Monday, June 14
Screaming Females (http://www.screamingfemales.com)
Pink Flag (http://www.myspace.com/pinkflagnc)
Last Year's Men (http://www.myspace.com/lastyearsmenband)
Local 506, Chapel Hill
Screaming Females are one of those bands who leave audience members sort
of stunned & amazed & wanting to rant about what they just saw to anyone
who walks by. Not that I've seen them - I haven't, yet - but I've been
on the receiving end of the ranting.
