1) POLITICAL PRISONER LETTER-WRITING NIGHT TOMORROW! (WED 5/19, 7 PM)

Once again, the successful monthly prisoner support event returns to
the Internationalist, as we remind political prisoners around the US
that they're not forgotten! Each month, the Chapel Hill Prison Books
Collective compiles a list of prisoners whose birthdays come that
month, and sponsors a night at the Internationalist for community
members to gather and write cards and letters to the folks inside.

Here are some of the political prisoners with birthdays in May to whom
we'll be writing:

Daniel McGowan
Alavaro Hernandez
Alex Hall
William Viehl
Mondo WeLanga

For more information, please contact ppbirthday AT riseup.net.

2) FREE ICE CREAM WITH PRISON BOOKS COLLECTIVE! (SUN 5/23, 12:30 PM)

Every Sunday, the Chapel Hill Prison Books Collective reads letters
from prisoners and sends them books, completely free. We have an
unusually large stack of letters this month so to catch up with all
those requests, we are inviting everyone to drop by on Sunday, May
23rd at 12:30 for free ice cream!

There will be vegan options and toppings (possibly raw banana ice
cream too) as well. Ice cream is free but filling two requests is
encouraged. If you feel like doing more, please do. Or if you're new
to it, just stop by to chat and see what the CHPBC does (and eat ice
cream, of course!)

Filling a package means: opening a letter, reading what three kinds of
books the prisoner is requesting and finding books within those
subjects on the shelves. After writing a quick letter, wrapping them
up and stamping them, you're done!

Your help will cut down on the stack and help get books out to people faster
so that they won't have to wait for weeks to get desperately needed
reading and educational material.

Drop by any time between 12:30-2:30 at 218 N. Graham St. in Chapel Hill.

3) THINK OUTSIDE THE BOMB TOUR! (SUN 6/6, 3 PM)

Think Outside the Bomb is the nation's largest youth-led nuclear
abolitionist network, and they're going to be coming to Chapel Hill to
your favorite independent radical bookstore, Internationalist Books!
This year they are engaging in a campaign called Disarmament Summer,
which includes a presence at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
Review in May, a three month national tour (with a stop here at
I-Books), and an Action and Permaculture Encampment July 30th to
August 9th.

TOTB Tour will be offering a presentation/discussion focusing on the
issue of nuclear abolition, with a stress on its intersections with
other global movements, including: movements for sustainable energy,
indigenous sovereignty struggles, environmental movements, labor
movements, and movements that oppose the state of global capitalism,
among others. They will also speak of creating a positive and
affirming culture of resistance. The discussion will also incorporate
music performance, puppets, interactive mapping, and a traveling art
exhibit. TOTB will be co-presenting with the Counter Cartographies
Collective.

From TOTB:

"We seek to build community and working knowledge through our national
tour, by offering critical information on the state of the US Nuclear
Industrial Complex, as well as a critical look at how we engage in
resistance."
