1) TUES, 3/23, 7 PM: ROLLING THUNDER #9 RELEASE PARTY!
Rolling Thunder is a biannual, locally produced anarchist journal
covering passionate living and creative resistance in all the forms
they take: from consensus process to streetfighting, from workplace
struggles to graffiti art, from gender mutiny to subversive humor.
Each issue runs the gamut from on-the-spot reporting, strategic
analysis, and instructional guides to poetry, comics, and games. It's
our most popular magazine here at the Internationalist, and we're
lucky to have editors and contributors on hand to read from the ninth
and most recent issue, share food and conversation, and plot revolution.
IN THIS ISSUE: How important is legitimacy?in our own eyes, in the
eyes of potential allies, in the eyes of the public? How can
anarchists cultivate it? What pitfalls does it hold? Rolling Thunder
#9 explores these questions while reporting on the past six months of
upheavals around the US. Following up on our coverage of the 2008
convention protests, this issue assesses anarchist action at the 2009
G20 summit, mapping conflict throughout the city and analyzing the
strategies of the police and protesters. The accompanying Pittsburgh
scene report examines the decade of local organizing that prepared the
ground for this and other confrontations. Elsewhere herein, we
scrutinize protest and resistance on campus ? from the recent
occupation movement to efforts to shut down fascist student
organizations ? and overseas in the Smash EDO campaign. All this, plus
obscure Russian history, a reappraisal of the concept of "free
speech," and the usual stunning prose. DON'T MISS IT!
2) THIS WEEKEND: NC RISING CONFERENCE AND ACOUSTIC CONCERT!
This weekend, March 26-28, Internationalist Books will co-sponsor the
NC Rising! conference, a statewide anarchist/anti-authoritarian
gathering, and will host an acoustic concert the evening of Saturday
the 27th as a part of the festivities. Read on for details!
--3/26-28: NC RISING CONFERENCE!--
Calling all anarchists, anti-authoritarians, and autonomists! The last
weekend of March, people from across North Carolina and beyond will
converge in Chapel Hill, NC for a conference exploring organizing and
resistance in our communities and our lives. Join us for a weekend of
workshops, networking, fine dining, entertainment, and more, as we
learn, debate, celebrate, and strategize together.
If you're new to anarchy or radical politics, you can meet other
like-minded people, learn about anti-authoritarian approaches to
social change, and find out how to participate in existing projects.
If you've been involved in communities of resistance for a long time,
this will be an opportunity to discuss issues across our struggles,
build deeper connections, and revitalize activity across the state and
region. Panel discussions will cover everything from eco-defense and
prison abolition to autonomous community spaces. In an era of economic
and ecological crisis, North Carolina is rising... join us! To
learn more or get involved, email autonomyworks AT gmail.com. To
register to attend, or check out the schedule of events:

3) BECOME A MONTHLY SUSTAINER FOR THE PRISON BOOKS COLLECTIVE!
-An Announcement from the Chapel Hill Prison Books Collective-
The Prison Books Collective is a prison abolitionist group that sends
hundreds packages of books and radical literature to prisoners, by
request, each month. We also publish prisoners' updates, news, art,
and poetry in a regular publication, and provide resource guides and
contact information for other prisoner support groups on the outside.
Beginning in January 2010, the Chapel Hill Prison Books Collective
will initiate a new format for its supporters and enthusiasts to
support the collective's work. A monthly "sustainer program" will
allow supporters and participants alike to donate a predetermined
amount to the collective every month. It's simple and easy to use: one
merely has to go to our website at www.prisonbooks.info, find the
"Donate Now" sidebar, enter the monthly
amount one wishes to donate (ranging from $5 to $50 dollars), and
click "subscribe" to enter in a bank account or credit card. The money
is then automatically deducted from the bank account or credit card
every month via Paypal.
Our group provides resources that serve a tremendous variety of
purposes on the inside, from self-education and legal support to study
groups and organizing in prison. With these purposes in mind, just a
few dollars a month to help cover the increasing postage costs of our
work can make a huge difference. Just for context, donating just 10
dollars per month can send a package of urgently needed materials to a
different prisoner every week. Please consider becoming a monthly
sustainer, and please tell your friends about this option as well.
In solidarity,
the Chapel Hill Prison Books Collective
