---DETAILS---
Tuesday January 26
=95 8P Public Nudity Songwriters Night #4
A new series featuring great area songwriters.
Hosted by Greg Humphreys (Dillon Fence, Hobex).
This months guest artists are Britt "Snuzz" Uzzell and Shawn Luby
(Humble Tripe).

Britt Harper Uzzell - better known as Snuzz - has long been one of the
Triad's most lovable (and quietly gifted) musical characters. He
worked in Bus Stop for years, toured with Ben Folds, and has passed
time making solo CDs full of extraordinary pop music. His latest disc,
Big Potatoes, is a slice of delectable, feel-good pop that seems
almost too appealing to be true (and way too good to go unnoticed).
Snuzz wrote, produced, recorded and played most of the instruments,
with a few contributions from such notable cohorts as Django Haskins,
Eddie Walker and Robert Sledge. The songs are hey-would-you-look-at-
that jewels, evocatively so, cut through with a winning sense of
Southern grace and place. The arrangements are airy, and the
performances unfold with unassuming ease, capped by sneaky hooks and
Snuzz's unassuming singing (think Evan Dando).
- "The Singer With Nothing To Say," the apologetic "Fayetteville,"
"Love Of The Game" - all will steal your heart away, which is just
what great pop music is supposed to do. - Ed Bumgardner, Relish staff
writer
- "Snuzz has hand his hand in more interesting projects since 1990
than most anybody else in the state" Tim Davis, Creative Loafing -
"Better than 95% of the major label stuff that comes across my desk"
Parke Puterbaugh, Rolling Stone

Shawn Luby began the world of music as competitive classical
guitarist, running the house with his mother=92s guitar in hand by age
three. In between Bach, and Beethoven, Luby spent his time mastering
John Denver, Cat Stevens, and Led Zeppelin. Luby=92s recent journey into
song writing resulted in Humble Tripe, which combines the movement of
classical guitar with the flavor of indie-folk americana all the while
supporting a lyrical journey which pulls at the heart and refuses to
shy away from the vastness of human experience.
- =93The voice of Shawn Luby, who leads Humble Tripe, is rich like loam,
its low tones gilded above by incandescent flashes of something a bit
feminine. Think a sonorous young Dylan migrating to Anacortes, Wash.,
and singing with more soul than everybody else in that lo-fi land.=94-

Wednesday January 27
=95 7:30P Open Mic Night
Open Mic is arranged to enable anyone to perform, so all you have to
do is turn up early and get your name down to perform. Originals and
cover music of every style and genre are welcome! Open mic is a great
way to practice your art and can also can be a proving ground for new
talent and material. The audience consists of singers, poets,
songwriters and music lovers so the atmosphere should be warm and
encouraging for everybody.

Thursday January 28
=95 8P Chris Bryant - The 2010 Discovery Series (Ben Harper)
Middle school teacher by day, singer/songwriter by night, singer/
songwriter by night, Chris Bryant approaches varied genres and subject
matter with soulful honesty. It doesn't matter if he's singing about
love, love lost, social responsibility or having fun at a party - when
Chris sings, people listen. And when they listen, they believe him.

In 2010, Chris is playing a special series of shows at the Broad
Street Cafe. Each month, he'll play a 45-50 minute set of music from
an artist, band, or genre that's been influential or inspirational to
his musical development. He'll follow that up with a 45-50 minute set
of his own material. January's featured artist is Ben Harper. To

Triangle Brewing's "Something vs. Nothing" Cask Night
The boys at Triangle will be providing us with two cask conditioned
beers - Cask One ("Something") will be the Winter Stout with Coffee
and Seville Oranges - - Cask Two ("Nothing") will be the IPA with
additional dry hopping.

These casks are being created for The Dry Heathens... but we will be
tapping them around 6pm so the dinner crowd can enjoy them as well.

=95 10P Aminal (indie/soul/rock) - $5 Cover
"Aminal pushes tunes that are just as strong through a porous rustic
filter, like Spoon with work boots. One of the most exciting bands to
emerge from Chapel Hill during the backside of this decade, the young
four-piece Aminal brims with a potential only matched by its abundant
hooks." - Grayson Currin, Independent Weekly

=95 11P The Dry Heathens (rock/punk/indie)
"the band hammers at feedback-and-vitriol punk laced with shots of
hook and twang, like Drive By Trucker Mike Cooley woodshedding with
Social Distortion" =97 Grayson Currin, Independent Weekly

"The Dry Heathens craft massive songs of raucous energy - air-strike
epics that inspire equal parts emotion and movement."=97 Jamie Williams,
The Daily Tar Heel

Friday January 29
=95 8P Mandolin Orange (acoustic/folk/bluegrass)
An intimate roots music experience. The duo (Andrew Marlin and Emily
Frantz) create a vintage sound with their original brand of americana
music. The two pair guitar, violin and mandolin to compliment their
tight vocal harmonies and haunting melodies. A local review notes
that =93the duo=92s voices and instruments fit alongside each other like
Johnny and June Carter Cash =85 Mandolin Orange embodies the same
backwoods lovebirds aesthetic=94 (Daily Tar Heel). Their musical
influences range from Cole Porter to Doris Day to Dave Rawlings, but
their sound is something charming and all its own.

=95 10P The Hummers (rock)
We are the rock-n-roll party band of North Raleigh. The Hummers Rock!

Saturday January 30
=95 8P Mister Felix
Mister Felix has been entertaining people around the Wake Forest area
and beyond since 1994. That is when Catherine Johnson teamed up with
Robert Woessner to begin writing and recording songs as well as adding
jazz, rock, and pop favorites to their repertoire.
=95 10P The Will McBride Group (jazz/pop/funk)
Aguitar-based jazz trio that presents a truly unique blend of jazz,
edgy funk/pop and Latin stylings, full of rich color-chording,
impressive melodic solo and vocal work, all supported with superb
rhythmic backing. Over fifty years of collective stage experience
coupled with performing together for five years as a unit makes the
WMG one of the most polished, and sought-after trios in the area.

Sunday January 31
=95 7:30P Aaron Mills Project - Sunday Night Jazz Jam
Starting at 7:30, Open Jam at 9
If you are in any way a fan of jazz, this is not to be missed !!!
Aaron Mills, best known as the audacious bassist of classic funk act
Cameo, has inspired a generation of groovy musicians, but his long
time love affair with jazz has inspired The Aaron Mills Project.
Aaron has been playing at the Cafe for a few months now, along with
Wayne Kee, Bobby Hinton, Warren Fraizer and others. Aaron has brought
Sunday night jazz back to the Cafe in a format that includes a cast of
regulars as well as featured guest musicians every week. Towards the
end of the evening, the night becomes an open jam, so, if anyone wants
to come blow their horn....
