=95 8P Peewee Moore & The Awful Dreadful Snakes (roots/country)
Hillbilly Honkytonkers from Chattanooga TN that have burned up a
hundred thousand miles of worth of gasoline, and asphalt across the
good old U.S.A!!! With an endless touring schedual of over 200 dates a
year, making new paths, and taking the road less traveled.
By The age of 17 Peewee Moore was writing his own songs, and
picking up every show he could. With the gift of raw talent, and
showmanship Peewee has been fortunate enough to be able to share the
stage with several of his hero's, as well as some of outlaw country,
and rockabilly's most well known, and recieved acts such as David
Allen Coe, Dicky Betts, Wanda Jackson, Dale Watson, Shooter Jennings,
Charlie Daniels, James McMurtry, Southern Culture On The Skids, Scott
H. Biram, Bobby Bare JR, Steve Earle, Junior Brown, and Cowboy Jack
Clement.
Peewee Moore is getting ready to release his first solo album called
"The Leaving Side Of Gone" with 12 original songs. The finished
product will be in stores soon.
=95 10P Firehouse Rhythm Kings (swing)
The Firehouse Rhythm Kings is a swing ensemble based in Carrboro,
North Carolina and has in a short time ammassed a respectable brigade
of fans and dancers. Though the band often invites horn players to sit
in, there are only five permanent members. Joe Troop, a veteran of
multiple swing bands on 3 continents leads the band with hot fiddling,
powerhouse singing and unique compositions. Charles Cleaver plays the
piano with brute force and lush harmonies. Chris Roszell (tenor
banjo), Seth Barden (bass) and Britton Upchurch (drums) lay down a
thumping rhythmic foundation guaranteed to make you jump and jive! The
Rhythm Kings tip their hats to the past with their tedious
arrangements of swing classics, but they also showcase a nice
collection of finely-crafted compositions that traverse many musical
genres from funk to flamenco. Come see these guys live, and you'll
leave the show feeling fantastic. Swing! It just feels so good!

=95 8P Louis Ledford (folk/acoustic/minimalist)
Louis Ledford=92s land is the =93Old Weird America=94 Greil Marcus wrote so
emotively about. His stories seldom end with a hero on the proverbial
mountaintop. His narratives are typically told by the losers, those
close to the edge, in the grandest sense. This latest record puts him
in front of a microphone, sans accompaniment, where he pours out live-
sounding interpretations of his own music, which while not your
Daddy=92s folk, has one foot planted firmly either side of Cripple
Creek. Adios King represents Ledford=92s most accomplished work, which
at it=92s peak stands shoulder to shoulder with that of modern
luminaries as Gillian Welch, Patty Griffin, and the like. - J.
Holgren, 9X Magazine.
=95 10P Soulless Dogs (funk/blues/jazz)
"Soulless Dogs Blues Band left my jaw on the table with their major
chops and fireball singer."
-Brian Howe, Independent Weekly, Durham, NC
Ben Shelton added George Dyer as a friend on Facebook two weeks before
the start of classes at Duke, based on a common love of blues and
funk. After their first night at Duke, during a typically misguided
meet-your-peers session hosted by the university they would both soon
come to love and hate, they retired to George=92s hamster-cage dorm room
to play some of the best blues heard since Robert Johnson=92s
unfortunate demise. Two weeks later, bassist Spike Brehm heard the two
playing in the Blackwell commons room and, sensing the musical magic,
dragged bass and amplifier halfway across campus to join in. Thus
began the Soulless Dogs, a juggernaut of a band that would swiftly
conquer the other three bands in the Duke music scene.
By their junior year, the band was ready to cut their first record.
After a summer playing with St. Louis blues legend Bennie Smith, a
stint in the Duke jazz ensemble backing musicians like David =93Fathead=94
Newman and Joey DeFrancesco, and a three-month obsession with John
Coltrane and Allan Holdsworth culminating in a switch from standard
tuning to all-fourths, Ben=92s guitar playing had drastically improved.
In addition, his vocal and keyboard chops had developed to the point
where they were no longer an embarrassment. After careful study of
Freddie King and Roy Buchanan, George=92s guitar chops had evolved to
the point where Ben was content to play keys and sing, knowing that
George could burn up the stage as well as anyone, and play great
rhythm as well. After a six-month sabbatical in South Africa,
listening to nothing but James Brown and The Meters, Spike=92s bass
playing had matured, focusing on the groove while dancing through the
chord changes. Finally, drummer Rob DiMauro had joined the band,
bringing with him a deep knowledge of drumming history, an incredible
feel for time and groove, and infallible ears.
Their new record, Loose Cannonry, is the culmination of our last
three years of musical madness.

=95 10P Kenny Roby & Scott McCall (of Two Dollar Pistols) (rock/
alternative/indie)
In the mid to late 90=92s, as a founding member of the band Six String
Drag, Kenny Roby established himself as one of the main songwriting
forces behind the Americana/Roots Rock movement. Six String Drag
played a major role in the early success of Steve Earle and Jack
Emerson=92s E Squared label.

Roby and his band toured nationally with Earle and other acts and also
gained a strong following on the east coast and the midwest. The band
was featured on the soundtrack to the Grammy nominated film You Can
Count On Me and garnered much critical acclaim for their E Squared
release High Hat. In 1998 the band broke up and Roby continued with a
solo career releasing two more critically acclaimed albums Mercury=92s
Blues and Rather Not Know.

Roby=92s writing and singing have been praised by Billboard, The
Philadelphia Inquirer, The Boston Phoenix, The Washington Post,
Option, No Depression, Performing Songwriter and many other
publications. Kenny has also been featured on NPR=92s All Songs
Considered and Acoustic Cafe and has received extensive national
airplay on NPR, Americana and AAA radio stations.

Ryan Adams has claimed Roby as as an influential writer on his and his
former band Whiskeytown=92s music. In 2004 Adams featured Roby=92s song
Rather Not Know (from title track from the same album) on NPR=92s All
Songs Considered. (in a segment called You Play the Dj: Artist=92s
Picks) As well, Adams recently mentioned Roby in Rolling Stone as the
best songwriter that not many people have heard of.

Roby's new album "The Mercy Filter" leans much less on Americana than
previous efforts but dips and turns more into straight up rock,
experimentation, Beatle-esque grooves, and soulful ballads. The band
on the record features Scott McCall (Two Dollar Pistols, New Electric
Combo), Mark O'Brien (Two Dollar Pistols, Barn Burning), David Kim
(Les Dirt Clods, Houston Brothers) and Justin Faircloth (Houston
Brothers)

=95 7:30P Aaron Mills Project - Sunday Night Jazz Jam
Starting at 7:30, Open Jam at 9

If you are in any way a fan of jazz, this is not to be missed !!!
Aaron Mills, best known as the audacious bassist of classic funk act
Cameo, has inspired a generation of groovy musicians, but his long
time love affair with jazz has inspired The Aaron Mills Project.
Aaron has been playing at the Cafe for a few months now, along with
Wayne Kee, Bobby Hinton, Warren Fraizer and others. Aaron has brought
Sunday night jazz back to the Cafe in a format that includes a cast of
regulars as well as featured guest musicians every week. Towards the
end of the evening, the night becomes an open jam, so, if anyone wants
to come blow their horn....
