*LIMINAL FESTIVAL - an extravaganza of genre-bending music*

Hi from Wendy Spitzer (Felix Obelix, Lemming Malloy, ex-Eyes to Space,
etc). I'm putting together a genre-bending music festival called the
Liminal Festival, scheduled for Sept. 24-26 in the greater Chapel
Hill/Carrboro area: http://liminalfestival.com. Felix Obelix only plays
once every six months or so, and this might be the last time we play live
this year.

The Liminal Festival’s goals are twofold: 1) to bring together musicians who
are bridging genres, working to integrate genres or otherwise bend the rules
of traditional musical genre, for performances to highlight the
possibilities of this cross-genre experimentation and 2) to expose
listeners, especially underserved or otherwise nontraditional audiences, to
these performances.
The schedule has been finalized, and is as follows:
*The ArtsCenter (Carrboro, NC) – Saturday, September 26 at 8pm* - $7 ticket
for 7 of the Liminal Festival acts, back to back, in both theatres. It’s an
extravaganza of art and music on the edge! Doors at 7pm, and the show
starts at 8pm sharp, with:

*Organos* – Maria Albani (Pleasant, Schooner, etc.)’s solo project making
its LIVE DEBUT.
*Bee vs. Moth* – Traveling all the way from Austin, Texas for this festival,
Bee vs. Moth is an instrumental jazz/art/rock band, and was selected through
sonicbids.com!
*Billy Sugarfix* – Theremin, loop pedals, songs about giant hummingbirds,
masks. Performance art not to be missed.
*Make a Rising* – Touring down from Philadelphia, Make a Rising’s lush prog
pop orchestrations will be matched by some elaborate costuming and live
antics.
*Felix Obelix* – Avant-pop that even arts councils can get behind. Wendy
Spitzer of Felix Obelix is curating the Liminal Festival.
*Wes Phillips* – Very surprising pop music, Wes will play solo over a backup
track.
*INVISIBLE: Rhythm 1001*, the analog drum machine art/sound piece will be
installed in the gallery of the ArtsCenter for the duration of the night and
will play sets between the theatre performances.
There will also be liminal baked goods for sale, and attendees are invited
to bring stories of liminal times
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liminality>in their lives, to be written
on a gigantic mural, for the enlightenment of
all.

*Carrboro Century Center (Carrboro, NC) – Friday, September 25 at 5pm* -
free and open to the public, featuring the chamber-folk trio, Billy
Sugarfix and the Passwords. This is designed as an outreach performance,
with special populations to attend, but anyone is invited.

*Ronald McDonald House/SECU Family House (Chapel Hill, NC)* – Thursday,
September 24 (outreach performance for patients and families of patients
being treated at UNC Hospitals. Due to health concerns of the attendees,
this event is not open to the public). Solo sets by Reid Johnson of Schooner
and Jay Cartwright of Lemming Malloy, on the accordion.

Thanks,
Wendy
